I can't believe it has been 2 years today since my WLS! My journey has been incredible. Even with my near death experience the end of Jan. of this year, I still say this surgery saved my life. We know we are taking a risk when we have this surgery and there can be complications from it and side affects. But, staying the way we were also was taking a risk everyday we stayed Obese. I wasn't thrilled that I experienced a perferated (sp?) ulcer and my new pouch had to be repaired and made smaller and the ring my doctor uses w/the RNY procedure had to be removed and now I struggle w/a different eating regiment than I was use to. But, all in all I am still a healthier person. At one point I had dropped 163lbs. from my 290lbs. pre-op weight and had to gain 20 of it back. That was a scary thing to have gone through. You mean now I have to GAIN when I have been told to LOOSE for half my life? I did what I had to do to stay healthy. I'm not perfect w/my program but, I always pick myself up and get back in the race. The race for my life. I am a Food Addict and will constantly have to watch what and how much goes into my mouth or I will pay the price. A price that is very high and not worth it. I share this to encourage those who are pre-op and post-op. WLS is not a magic cure all. We still have to do our part and with the help of others that are traveling this same journey and are willing to share their experiences w/us, I say thank you for all your support. I just came back from my nephew's wedding in New Jersey and it was the first time I have flown since my WLS. The last time I flew I needed a seat belt extender and this time, not only did the seat belt fit, I had a fair amount extra hanging. I had so much space in my seat and didn't even feel the cold sides of the seat. Can I say I had a Wow moment! At the wedding I wore a dress that I only dreamed of getting into. I must admit that I got a lot of attention. The photographer was taking soooo many pictures of me on that dance floor that it became very uncomfortable after awhile. My sister and cousin commented on it too. I love attention but not that much. And coming back home at the airport a car load of young 20 something year olds were unloading next to us and I heard a comment from one of them saying to their friends, you see that girl over there (meaning me) I'm gonna get here phone number when we get on the plane. I had to laugh to myself because he called me a girl. I'm almost 49 and a grandma....Little did he know just how much he made my night. And when I came out of the terminal on my return home to Florida, my husband came up to me and said he almost couldn't pick me out of the crowd and checked me out and said Wow you look good. This also made his night. So, this has been a wonderful 2 years of regaining back health, self esteem, self worth and a chance to hold my head up high and be proud of who and what I have accomplished through this surgery and journey. Thank you God, my Surgeon, my PCP, my family and friends who showered me w/love and support through these past two years. Here's to many more healthy years to come. Hey Lynda, Thanks girlfriend for the compliments. Yes, I had a great time at the wedding and the weather was perfect. What a welcome home this weather has bought me. Uggh! But this is what we have to expect living in Florida. I still would rather be here than the North. Hope you're having a good weekend. Take care! Jeannie
