HELP - PAIN!!!

I'm a little over 5 months out and having terrible stomach pain. I ate steak for dinner about 8:30 pm on Wed. and I must have eaten too fast, or not chewed well enough or ate too much b/c before I finished my 2 oz. of steak, I was beginning to hurt. (I've eaten steak many times with no problem) The pain is above my waist in the center and to the left side. Even sipping water caused more pain. I don't have a gallbladder but it reminds me of a gallbladder attack kind of pain. When I go up yesterday I wasn't hurting too badly so I drank some Crystal Light then ate a boiled egg for breakfast - BIG MISTAKE!! Back to severe pain!!! I called my surgeon's nurse and she told me not to eat or drink anything for the rest of the day, maybe I'd irritated my pouch. When I spoke to her again about 5pm she told me to try sipping water or Crystal Light and to call back if I was still hurting. The liquids made me hurt some, but not unbearably, so I kept sipping b/c I was afraid I'd get dehydrated. I didn't call back, even though I knew my doc was on call, but I hurt all night and I'm still hurting. I'm going to call the office after 9:00 am when they open but in the meantime, does anyone have any suggestions or ideas of what I can do to ease the pain? Or what could be causing this pain?? I am 11 months out and I find issues with stea****asionally. I think my problem is I am eating it too fast. My mom sits there while I am eating and says "Remember don't eat it too fast, careful". It is exactly how I feel...don't have a gall bladder but feels like I am having an attack. I have had this happened 2 times...now I eat much much slower when it comes to steak. But my pain don't last thru the night, only 20 minutes to an hour do I feel uncomfortable. Since it is after 12 now, I hope you have called your doctor and have some answers or have gotten into the office to see him. I wish I had more answers for you..keep us posted. Tracey

Tracey, My surgeon sent me to have a CT Scan late this afternoon. The good news is that I do NOT have an infection, obstruction or blockage. He thinks the steak I ate Wednesday probably sat in my pouch a while b/c I either ate too fast, or didn't chew well enough and it really irritated my pouch. I've been on liquids only since yesterday morning, and nothing at all since mid-day today. They told me at the Imaging Center where they did the scan, to go home & he would call me with the results of my CT Scan. That was about 6:15 pm. I didn't hear anything from him so I called his service at 9:00 pm, but another doc was on call and he was no help. He told me to go to the ER if I was in unbearable pain. So I called my surgeon at home. (Fortunately, he lives in my neighborhood so I have his home phone #.) He was very apologetic, his nurse was supposed to call me but apparently, they got their wires crossed. When I talked to him at 9:00 pm he told me my scan looked fine & I could sip water this evening and tomorrow. By late tomorrow I can begin soft foods if the pain has eased off. I'm to call him at home at noon tomorrow (Sat.) to let him know how I'm doing. This is another WLS lesson learned the hard way - chew, chew, chew and S...L...O...W D..O..W..N !! Who knew a little bite of steak could cause such pain???!!! Thanks for your concern! Vickie J.

I'm going through a similiar situation but with me it's everything I put in my mouth and it's on the right side where my gb was just recently removed. But I'm visiting family in NY and have to wait to get back to Orlando before I can make any calls. I'm monitoring the situation. If they give you an answer, please post what they told ya.

I tried some bites of steak, big mistake! I think perhaps your pouch was swollen with irritation. Mine gets like that too, and it hurts. I hope you are feeling better, please keep us posted. hugs Tami
