Throwing up alot lately
I need advise! Lately I've been throwing up more and more. Can't figure it out. I chew 30 times, use a baby spoon, eat slowly. There seems to be no rhyme or reason.
I did drink some coffee yesterday morning, and perhaps that set me off? I'm a little over a month post op. Couldn't keep anything down but some refried beans. ( I know I'm not suppose to have beans, but I did not have anything else mushy around)
I'm trying to get my protein in by eating food, but its not coming easily. I am eating turkey, and fish, staying away from red meat.
This morning I had some ho****er, then my vitamins, then an egg, which I promptly threw up! I'm drinking some protein now, but I need to eat food too. Any ideas or advise? The other day I was able to eat some turkey and not have problems, the next morning I threw it all up!
I did leave a message with my doc's nurse and she'll call me back tomorrow. Thought I'd go on liquids only for now.
Any ideas on what to drink? Can't stand crystal lite, or sugar free drinks, fruit 2o. I like water and milk though.
Blessings,
Tami
beans are ok... i eat lot of them... what about tuna? cottage cheese? chicken in a can... eggs are hard for me still.. how about cheese? i do real good on cheese... deli meats worked good for me in the beggining... i dont know how you do with chicken... try that... ohh and wendys chili worked great for me.. had some last night for dinner... i dunno what to tell you about the drinks.. what about diet snapple.. or diet arizona?
keep your head up it will get better. I suggest you go on liquids for 24 hours. then start all over again. I am 16 months post op and still cant do eggs or much chicken. are you making the food moist and easy to swallow? the wetter the food the better for me too.
huggs keep us posted. I would offer to stop by and help you out but I have my own issues right now.

Hey Tami, I could not do coffee for about 4 months after surgery. Now I drink it every morning from dunkin donuts. The coffee at work is too strong makes me sick to my stomach. My first real food was refried beans but the fat free kind. I think it is just going to be trial an error right now. I used not be able to do bread but now I can handle maybe a slice. I used to drink alot of Propel. That has no sugar in it. Hope this helps.
Hugs,
Christine

Hi Tami,
Sorry to hear you're having problems.
I am 4 months post op now and still vomiting. My first month I had no nausea or bouts with vomiting. I can eat soup, cottage cheese with frozen berries, sardines, Atkins (water based) or Slimfast Lo Carb (milk based) protein drinks, Boca Burgers original or Garden burgers (sometimes they bother me too) some soft veggies and fruit. Tuna salad sometimes and crackers.
I don't eat meat and I can not get chicken or most fishes to stay down.
I was hardly getting any protein in from food source but kept drinking the protein drinks....a few weeks ago I had my blood work and I was expecting a problem with results on protein but it was perfect but my iron is low so I had to get an iron supplement.
I saw my surgeon on Monday and I am scheduled for an UGI and EGD. He told me if is absolutely NOT normal to be vomiting this long. Though you are right were I was when I started like a month after surgery. After results we will see if I need to have opening to stomach stretched. I hope not.
I always go back to just liquids for a day or so after I vomit which is nearly once a day. What is worse I look like I have been beat up. My face and neck gets so bruised from thowing up.
Hang in there and keep us posted.
Not to ask a dumb question but when you're new you don't know or forget..but are you drinking after eating perhaps. I'm 9 months out and trained myself to drink 1 hr to 30 minutes after a meal even if the meal is liquids like cup-a-soup if I drink any sooner or take any sips it can make me nausea...you may not be doing this - but I was wondering. I do propel and I also look for drinks that have no carbination in them not much out there that doesn't have sugar, or carbs or junk. Keep us posted...
