I apologize in advance for the language I hope the * will keep this post up. A friend and I went to a steak house for dinner tonight. She and I are both around 340. I am post-op -180lbs...she is considering surgery. We were almost finished with our meals when this drunk guy approached our table and said... "Excuse me ladies, you're probably going to tell me to f**k off, but I work in the health care field (he had a polo shirt on from a local hospital, but could be a janitor for all I know), and everyday I see what obesity does to people, so you two, lose some weight." (this part was pretty loud) I instantly replied with..."Thank you very much, but I am losing weight and have lost 180lbs, so I will tell you to go f**k off." He said, "Well you look like you weigh 400lbs!"...as he walked away, so I yelled to him, "well you know too much alcohol will kill you too!" Then the people at the bar asked us what he said and we told him, and they were appauld, the waitress came over to see what was going on and was alo appauld that he said that. He is a regular, and they said they would say something to him tomorrow. I said I'd like to buy him a drink for tomorrow so his liver can go throuhg scerosis a little faster. Then some other patrons came over and said they heard my alcohol comment and guessed what the guy had said and couldn't believe he would be so rude. They said if we were men the man never would have approached us. I was just glad because I stood up for myself. You know if he was actually sincere and finished the comment with, our hospital has a program...etc. But instead he just said LOSE SOME WEIGHT. I just laughed afterwards and my friend was stunned silent. In the end the manager gave us our dinner free (slightly ironic), and apologized again. We told her it wasn't her fault, she had no control over him. What an interesting evening...needless to say we didn't get dessert. ~Sarah

Girl I have SO been in that spot before...Long story short, I was in Daytona with my family. I was at our hotel bar getting a drink and waiting for my sis and this drunk guy next to me said you know you would be so hot if you weren't so fat! You must eat a ton! I was floored that someone could be THAT rude! The bartender made him buy me a drink and then kicked him out LOL! YOU GO GIRL! I'm glad you told him off Hugs Kim

Hi Sarah: Your gutsy message prompted me to visit your profile. Glad you spoke up for yourself! According to the info on your profile & the website link on it, you're 5'3" and 320 lbs. That's a challenging road you're on, pilgrim, but look how far you've come! It is tricky to avoid self-sabotage and yo-yo back up to a more familiar weight and I'm happy for you that you seem determined to break that pattern. At this point out from surgery, the psychological/spiritual/emotional strategies become crucial to permanent transformation to a healthy, happy, vital life. For those of us who have lifelong memories of being fat, it may seem impossible to imagine an alternative "life script." But IMAGINE we must if we're to enjoy longterm success. Give yourself the gift of daily daydreams of yourself at YOUR goal weight/image doing all the fun, fulfilling & successful activities/ having the relationships/ living the life you will be creating when your body no longer has to carry around that extra weight. As Wayne Dyer and others have said, "I'll SEE it when I BELIEVE it!" Continue to be the hero who saves your life. Lovingly, Lauralyn
