Okay, I have up until this moment been counting on our home equity loan to go through to pay for the surgery. I lined everything up, scheduled my date with the nervous confidence that there would be no problems. Well the apraisor came and went and then came and went again, the lender kept us runnign around fixing one thing after another! We had to fix up our outside utility closet, the wood doors needed replacing and the drywall needed to be patched up where I had punched through it to save a litter of kittens born behind the wall. SO I was on pins and needle that A) we get approved and B) we get the money in time. So now all I have to do bring the check to the hospital next week and go to my pre-op visits on the 12th. It is real! it is definatly going to happen!

I have Aetna HMO. At first they denied me unless I went through a 6 month program with a nutritionist, then four months into seeing the nutritionist I get a letter stating that they no longer will cover WLS as of Jan. 2005. I called and argued till I was blue in the face. All I got was "that was last year, this is now and we will not pay for WLS." So I gave up. Then a close family member gave me almost half of what I needed for the surgery and I was able to refinance the rest. Apparently it is much harder to get approved now than it was 2-3 years ago. When I started the process to get approved I checked up on Aetna's approval rate and it looked great. I was all set to go, I guess I just had bad timing.
