Hi Angie, My insurance company made me go through a 16 week weight management program. We didn't have a set amount of weight to lose, but my BMI had to be at least 50. My doctor will not touch you unless BMI is at 50 or lower. But also, he only does Lap RNY. Don't be so discouraged, just remember this will help you in the long run. The less you have to lose the better. I started in January at 304, now I am at 281. My surgery is 7/6/05. In my program, I learned alot about myself and my eating habits. Good luck and keep smilin'. God has a plan for you!!! If you need anything, don't hestiate to email me Hugs, Jen W.

My BMI right now is just over 41 and I guess I am scared that if I don't lose anything I want be qualified and if I lose to much, below 35 BMI I want qualify. I think they are being a little picky. But I guess jumping through these hoops will pay off in the long run. That is great you have lost weight even before surgery. Good luck on your upcoming surgery. I sounds like you are going to do great.

Angie, you are almost half way through your year, don't lose hope! Insurance companies can be pains, I had to have 5 years of weight loss records from my doctors office! You can get the weight off, perhaps try the pre op diet, which is restrictive. It will help get rid of the fat around your liver and you'll recover faster. I believe you can do this, so I'll help be your cheerleader!!! Blessings, Tami

Thanks, I think we all need cheerleaders now and then. What is this diet that you are talking about it I might try it. I am not going to lose hope but this is one year that I wish would hurry on by.

Angie just wanted to welcome you to the Florida Boards. hang on in there..before you know it you'll be on your way. Just keep doing what they recommend - and if nothing happens - it isn't your fault - we're designed that way - I tried many diets and nothing worked but yet I didn't initially want to have this surgery either. Luckily for me I was being treated for diabetes and high cholesterol for years and when I finally decided to do the surgery everything just happened, luckily my PCP was also in favor. I know some are not and they can also be a stumbling block. Will say a prayer for you so that things will move along more quickly!
