I wanted to add that I weighed myself after one week after the surgery and didn't lose anything either. I was obviously upset. The doctor told me not to weigh myself for a month.... We hold in a lot of water because of the swelling after surgery, but after 2-3 wks the swelling will subside and you will see the wt loss on the scale.

Laurie, I am sorry you are hurting emotionally and physically. Pain is so different for each one of us. We all have different levels of pain tolerance. Did you talk to your doc about not being able to take the pain medication? See what alternatives he comes up with. Does he know the amount of pain you are in? Have you tried warm tea in the morning and before meals to calm your stomach? That helps. You might not lose weight in 3 days girlfriend, give it some time. You do need to get your water in so that you don't dehydrate, so let the doc know you are having problems. Force yourself to cough and walk because that helps keep other complications away. You will get through this, this is just a little hurdle. hugs to you and please know all of us here care about you and will do our best to support you through! Blessings, Tami

You poor sweet thing. I feel for you. Everyone has their own pain tolerance level. Yours is just odviously low. The more time goes on you wont regret it. You are also still swollen and holding allot of water from surgery.. dont look at the scales yet. It just gets you discouraged. Chin up!!! Kimie

Laurie we all crossed all that road before - and none of us felt good about it. No one can possibly tell me that they went through MAJOR surgery and not experience pain. I am just 3 days post op of gallbladder surgery and I can tell ya it was no picnic. In fact, I thought I didn't experience pain during my RNY but found out that it was cause I was always pumping demerol - so who would remember - lol...that was a surprise to me. But when we're all new to this experience we're all winging as well and you're not alone. This to shall pass. That I can assure you and then you will be able to share with those behind you and help those when they get to this crossroads. Take it easy. Keep up with the walking and drink/sip as much water as you can. And don't look at the scale..it will take time. In the beginning we're all looking at the scale constantly and then you get to developing those healthy eating lifestyle and living by the scale will be a thing of the past. It's not that I don't look at mine but I don't pay as much attention to it as I did in the beginning. There are many factors that you will encounter and that happen - its part of life. Take it easy and hang in there!!

I had open surgery and i can say the most painful thing i had was pre-op. I do have a high pain tolerance. The most painful thing for me was when they stuck a needle through my neck into my wind pipe, and the horrible gurgling sound i made trying to cough up what they injected. I hardly used my pain meds in the hospital, the only other pains i really experienced was my tail bone was bruised, it hurt to sit or lay down. Of course the G-tube was anoying. But i can honestly say it was relativly painless. I am sorry for lauries pains, maybe talk to the doc, could be a complication too. good luck
