I was wondering if any of you could tell me about your experiences with either of these doctors. I am having a difficult time deciding between staying in Pensacola and going with Dr. Nye or going down to South Florida for surgery at U.S. Bariatrics. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am a patient of US Bariatric and I can't say enough about their program from start to finish. The after care is amazing and the staff is top notch. They are constantly evaluating and updating their eating plan and exercise requirements based on the latest proven data. They are just awesome. I feel so well taken care of. If Dr. Nye has a great after care program you may want to factor that in since he's local and trust me, you need all the support you can get after surgery.

Amanda- Pretty soon you will have another surgeon in the Pensacola area, Dr. Lord. He may be new to the area but he has been a bariatric surgeon for some time. He was a Navy doc working at the Portsmith Naval Hospital. His credentials look good.

Darn... I saw the "vs." in your post and was wondering if there was a boxing match scheduled. I've met Marema a few times and know that he's very active with training other bariatric centers to become great centers. Since FL reimbursement dropped close to almost nothing, his center, I believe, does more quality training and less surgery than it used to, which I don't imply to be good or bad.

I would suggest giving Dr. Lord some consideration also. I attended one of his seminars and met him and Jan, and I was very impressed. I've decided to use him. Betti

Dear Amanda- I had Dr. Marema in 2001. I had open RNY. He did lap RNY on my sister 2 years ago. Neither of us have had any complications. So needless to say we are happy. Hope this helps

Thanks so much for all the help guys. I think after all the worrying i'm gonna stick with my original instinct and go with Dr. Marema. I have felt very comfortable with his staff so far and only have one more test to go before I can set my date. Sleep study here i come!
