Revision Questions
I had wls (rny) in November of 2001. Unfortunately, I am putting the weight back on which is very depressing. I need to find a great doctor in the Florida area that does revisions, if I need one. Orginally, I had my surgery done in Reno, Nevada and moved to the Clearwater area last July. Does anyone have any recommendations for my area of Florida? Also has anyone had to have a revision due to regaining weight. Information from you all would be appreciated. Thank you...Carolyn
You might try the American Society for Bariatric Surgery website. There you can "search for a member". You can pull up all of the bariatric surgeons in the state of Florida and then look for "REV" next to their name that means that they do "Revision/Conversion of Prior Procedures". At least it is a place to start.
Do you think you have some sort of mechancial failure of your prior surgery? It is my understanding it is very difficult to get a revision unless there is something that has has gone wrong from your previous surgery.
I know that some people do get revisions from RNY's to DS's but I doubt you would find someone to do that in Florida -- since there is only one DS surgeon in Florida, and he does not do very many DS surgeries. But if you are interested in that sort of revision you might want to post a message on the DS board.
Here is the link to the ASBS.

Thank you for your reply and the information. I do think that something could be wrong with my pouch. I feel like it has really stretched and also that the opening may have also stretched. I also seem to always have a dull pain on the right side near my stomach. So, I have an appt. scheduled with a doctor close to where I live and I am working on seeing a doctor in Ft. Lauderdale. Thanks Again, Carolyn
Hi Carolyn,
I had a revision from the VBG (1982) to the RNY in February 18, 2005. I had gained all my weight back and then some. So far I've lost 62 lbs and couldn't be happier. I've had No complications! Dr. Barry Haicken performed my surgery at Morton Plant in Clearwater. Dr. Haicken is a wonderful surgeon and a very caring person. Go to his website to get more information http://www.drhaicken.com. He sponsors a support group that meets twice a month. We are having a meeting/picnic this Saturday at LAKE SEMINOLE PARK, Pavilion #8, from 10:00 AM on. Why don't you come join us and get some of your questions answered? Bring a folding chair & a dish to share. If you want more information call Lynne Thompson 727-461-8658. Also, I'll be willing to answer any of your revision questions.

Thank you for replying to my question. In fact, I have an appt. with your doctor in 2 weeks. Actually, it is with the PA. I feel like something is wrong with my pouch...either it has stretched a lot or the opening has become too big. I just don't know what can be done from a lap rny....that is what I had in 2001. You are doing great with your revision, keep up the good work. Keep me informed about your meetings, it would be good for me to attend. Carolyn
