I am 1 1/2 yrs. post op, I had my surgery in CT and now live in FL. Can't get a bariatric surgeon to see me, they won't see me since they didn't do the surgery. I've been having severe abdominal pains lately. I've had a "feeling" or sensation in my abs since surgery, but nothing this painful. The pain was so bad this last time I had to go to the emergency room. Blood work, x-rays and ultrasound showed nothing. My Primary said to see a gastrointernologist. My CT doctor said to have a CT Scan done. Has anybody been getting severe ab cramping so long after surgery??

Debra, Can't help with the pain but I know my doc has taken on several relocates from different states. His name is Samuel Cox 954-928-0066, (I think that is his number) I am not far enough out yet to say about the cramping but I know it is not normal and you need to see someone NOW. Good luck, Will keep you in my thoughts. Kat

Debra...was it a spasm pain in the gut....come and go and cramp so bad you almost can't breath? I've had that.....everytime I ate or drank something it would start....then it finally went away on its own... It started with me about a year and half out too....just out of the blue one day....and its awful. Landed me in the ER once also.... My Bariatric Doc says its a partial blockage....and when it happens again...I am to have an X-Ray while its going on....I will have to call my PCP to get one.....how miserable will that be..... I was sent to a gastro too.....he did an endoscope and opened my stoma....he said that was it....I have had the pain once since then...it was bad, but it only lasted about 10 minutes then went away....I used to think it was severe gas....like gastritis....and it may be....who knows. I was just curious about the kind of pain you have.... Hugs Charlie

Thank so much, this helps alot!!! It DOES feel like some sort of gastritis or digestive problem, it's like gas pains to the max! I can't really specifiy the exact area, it's actually my entire abdomin, starting just below the rib cage to pelvis. So if it's a blockage they can see that in an endoscopy? I started cutting out dairy (maybe lactose intolerant) yesterday so we'll see if that changes anything. Thank you! It's great to have this board, as people who haven't been through this (even doctors) just can't help!

Debra...I am lactose intolerant too....and its not that. The worst time I had it....my morning coffee started it....it would go away then everytime I ate or drank something it would come back worse...so I stopped eating....then about 11pm I felt ok...so I had a protein shake...thats when it got so bad I was bent over with pain...again...spasms. It felt like labor pains must feel like...really hard hard contractions...then it eases...then contracts again. The problem is...I never know what will set it off.... The endo Doc couldn't find anything wrong when he looked....but he said my stoma was way too small....I did get things stuck a lot....always did...and now I don't have that much anymore. My Bariatric Doc says I must have an x-ray while its happening to what is causing it....so I'm waiting for the next time.... Hugs Charlie

You are helping me so much! You're the only one that's had this happen to them. When I was in the hospital on Monday they did the Xray while it was happening. I was supposed to go to my primary and he was to pull them up to look at them, but he said on the phone I don't need to come in, but to go direct to a gastrointerologist instead. So next week when I go, I'll have him look at the xrays and tell him what you were told. I'll let you know if they find anything. I'm afraid to eat anything beside a teeny bit because I never know when the pain will just kick in.

Well...Debra..don't know if I'm helping...not doing anything really...but I think we are going thru pretty much the same thing. I don't have a gall bladder so it can't be that....and the pain is from the top of my abdomen to down in my lower colon area....but thankfully I've only had it once since my endoscopy....since he opened my stoma a little...and that episode only lasted a short time. And its a good thing...I don't think I could have gotten up to go to the hospital. It was like...grab the side of the bed and hang on till it subsided. Let me know what your endo says....at least you are ahead of the game and had x-rays while it was going on. But just tell him you think it could be a partial blockage. And if not...maybe he will schedule an endoscopy and that will help. Keep me posted. Hugs Charlie

I dont have his Number handy but he is in the bariatric listings, but Dr Jawad, im sure would look at you. He is in Ocala, FL. I have heard Dr Jawad say its possible, when we loose extreme amounts of weight that it is possible that we can get estrangulation (spelling) sort of like that of a hernia, because of the extra space for our intestines to move around in and tangle up. Might be worth checking that out too. good luck hope you feeel better
