Any hypothyroid comments post-op?
I am in the midst of another doctor giving me all kinds of testing as he believes the weight issue, etc...is related to my thyroid. He feels that this surgery is not necessary if he is able to get the thyroid under control. I know we have HORRIBLE thyroid issues in my maternal gene pool. Even if the thyroid test is proven positive...I am getting the surgery done...as I need to loose this weight and not be out of breathe, racing heart, etc...
Any comments on synthroid for hypoactive thyroid post-op? Would like to know how the surgery effected your thyroid levels? Your medications (ie adjustments?) Would like to gather some facts before the verdict is read by my doctor....incase I will need to begin medication.
As always, thanks for your input.
I am hypothyroid and I can't say that the surgery affected my thyroid one way or the other, but I don't htink that my PCP ever really got my levels straightened out. Since the surgery I've had to go up another dose, but again I can't say that the reason for that is the surgery. I CAN say that synthroid IS NOT going to take care of your obesity problem. My PCP tried saying once I got on synthroid my weight would just fall off. NOPE! Didn't happen.

In one of my many weight loss endeavors I was under a doctor's care and he treated my obesity with armour - I believe that is bovine thyroid. I definitely lost weight but I didn't eat much either. I had tremendous energy, too. I Stopped the RX and the weight came back. It scared me to stay on a medication for a condition which didn't show up oh my lab work. My thyroid labs were all normal prior to this weight loss try. I'm happy with my WLS results.
