HAVING TROUBLE WITH PORTIONS......
Ok I have to lose 35 lbs before i can have the surgery done. My insurance requires i lose 10% of my body weight before surgery. Well my problem is that real portions you know the 1 cup and the 3 oz etc... well its NOT ENOUGH! At first im like ok im full but then about 1 hr after eating im starving again. Any suggestions? I dont want to gain anymore weight, i cut out soda, sweets, no fast food(none not even grilled chicken), no heavy meals, etc,... but im so HUNRGY! I CANT TAKE IT ...
There are "free" foods that you can eat that count as no carbs and will help fill you. Lettuce is one of them. I went to a diabetic seminar and they talked about this. Maybe you can find a resource for the "free"foods that will help you fill in so you are not so hungry.
I was not required to loose weight prior to my surgery but I took the diabetic class and lost almost 20 lbs prior to surgery by counting carbs. I could have 40-45 carbs per meal and 1 26 carb snack per day. It also sounds like you are not getting enough protein. That will also make you hungry.
The best suggestion I have for you is to contact someone to help you with a weight loss plan.
I had to do a 3 month diet but i did lose 36 lbs on my 90th day, adn I had a slimfast in the morning (the slimfast optima has 50% less sugar and less calories) a healthy choice meal for lunch and a healthy choice for dinner, oh and crystal light or diet. now my diet was 1000 calories but i had to have the slimfast and 2 healthy choice's or you could do the lean cuisines but if i got hungry between meals, you can have any fruit or veg's especially veg's in moderation or i would have some yogart or a little popcorn. just check the calories and make sure you eat around 1000 or so a day. if you have questions about my diet ask anytime
I have never been able to do portions either. And I can not stand being hungry all of the time. Since this is a short term diet to get you prepared for surgery, maybe your PCP could hook you up with an appetite suppressant.
The only non-chemically induced diet I have ever had any success with is low carb. My surgeon requested that I loose 15 pounds before my surgery (at three weeks out no less). Since I am the self-proclamed King of short term diets, this is not a problem. I am doing very low carb and lost the 15 pounds in two weeks (much of which was water, but 15 pounds is 15 pounds on doctors scale). As Martha mentioned, there are low carb foods that you can eat as much as you want and not have to deal with the hunger problem (cravings are another issue entirely).
Good Luck
HI
PORTION CONTROL PROBLEMS IS PROBABLY WHY WE ARE ALL IN THE POSITION WE ARE IN(OR WERE IN). I HAD SURGERY A YEAR AGO,NEXT WEEK AND I STILL FEEL THE URGE TO KEEP EATING. YIKES, I WISH THERE WAS A MAGIC WAY OF ENDING THIS FEELING. I DO NOT LOVE JELLO BUT I KEEP A BOWL OF SUGARFREE JELLO IN MY FRIG.I MAKE IT WITH LESS WATER THEN THE BOX SAYS. I LIKE IT FIRMER. IT HAS SAVED ME. HAVE YOU TRIED THE SOUTH BEACH DIET? IT IS LOW CARB,HIGH PROTEIN. THE HIGH PROTEIN WILL HELP IN KEEPING YOU FROM BEING HUNGRY. GOOD LUCK. YOU ARE NOT ALONE. LIZZ
I congratulate you for losing 35 lbs - on your own. It's mean to have to require you to lose 10% of your body weight - if you could do it - then you wouldn't need the surgery - even though some people have done it. It sounds though that your portion are really small..even I at 8months post-op can eat a bit more than that - no wonder you're hungry!! I would think that if you're exercising then you should be able to eat a bit more. They say to lose proper weight you should eat 6 small meals..but small doesn't mean a cup. I mean I can eat just one fillet of grilled salmon from gortons' but then i can eat a bit more frequently. Get a block of cheese and have a couple of pieces during the day - i have 2 hard boile egg whites and a small bowl of cereal (dry) then 2 hrs later or so I get 4 lean slices (70 cal) of ham or turkey, and a 1oz piece of cheese(110 cal) then 2 hr or so lunch which usually is a grilled chicken sandwich - the bread and insides. Then I may snack on cashews, cupof soup, cereal bar or those PB crackers that come in 6 or 4 in a pack for 170 cals. I don't do popcorn, nor veggies cause they are rough on the pouch. You don't have to make it heavy - but don't make it so light either. You're not on the other side yet, but you'll get there. Hang in there!!!
