I have been under some much stress for the past two weeks, that I have lost 18 pounds (in 2 1/2 weeks.) I am concerned as my insurance has no restrictions on the surgery as long as I am a 40 BMI...I was a 42 when I weighed in with my surgeon 2.5 weeks ago...I need to recheck now. I know that this is a temp loss...it never lasts and I don't want to screw up the incredible progress I've made over the past month in regards to getting my surgery moving along. HELP!!! If the surgeon puts me on a "diet" before surgery, I'm afraid that I will not be okay...as I know I will gain this loss back and if I push myself to fullfill the surgeons diet, I will put myself UNDER the 40 BMI. HELP!!!!!!

Laurie, Not sure where you are in the approval process, but will you have to weigh in again prior to the surgeon sending all your paperwork and letter stating you are over 40 BMI? I only saw my surgeon once before they sent all the paperwork in with my test results, listing of comorbidities, etc. to the insurance company and they used that weight. Anyway, good luck with everything! Amy

Laurie, You'll be fine.. I also lost weight under extremem anxieties before my surgery.. You have already had you first initial weight .. when you went to your consult that's what they give to your insurance.. I had a bmi of 39.2 when I had my surgery.. they ask you try to lose 10-15 lbs to shrink your liver before surgery.. congratulations on your weight loss.. you'll be fine.

My insurance requires a diet before they will even accept the papperwork so for 3 months I was on a 1000 calorie diet and lost 36lbs my BMI was 49 when I went in for my consultaion and my dr sends in that information along with the diet info, and I got approved in 2 hours. call your dr if you are really worried and ask about their procedure for submitting the ins info.
