tell me about the pain
Alright come on - tell me seriously about the pain. Im still waiting on approval - and u wont scare me out of it - I just saw one of my closest friends in the world come out of surgery yesterday and the poor thing looked and sounded miserable - especially when they made her sit in the chair instead of the bed 5 hrs after surgery. I dont hav e ahigh threshold for pain AT ALL - but I am at a 48.6 BMI and do know I need this surgery
Gina, I honestly didn't have any pain till about 3 weeks out and home. I'm so allergic to many painll I was on nothing in the hospital but the morpheine pump was there if need was there. I was up walking all around my unit without being told it was time to walk. It was a very good experience for me. I was sent home with meds for pain and about 3 wks out what I needed most was Zofran for nausea and I'm still feel nausea everyday but NO PAIN. BTW, the pain I got was from vomiting not my new pretty like pouch, got to see it 4 wks out in catscans which they gave me copies.
My friend Lori B came to hospital to see me and couldn't believe I was up dressed in my own preeties and had my eye makeup on sitting up with my legs crossed indian style & we talked for awhile and I was very cohearent.
Just through all negativity out the window and think positive and that is what will get your through. It was the best thing I ever did for my self and it is so ...... well worth getting your inner soul back.
Hugs,
Ginny
Gina,
The incisions / surgery itself created very little pain. I've had much worse cramps!! However, the night of my surgery I had severe gas pains in my chest and left shoulder. I'm allergic to morphine so I had Demerol in the pain pump and I used it several times during that night which provided relief. After that night, I only used the pain pump a time or two before I got up to walk. But walking didn't create any pain for me so I quit even doing that.
I have a pretty high pain tolerance, but was unprepared for how bad the gas pains would be. This is my own fault b/c I expected normal gas pain in the belly even though I know they "inflate" your abdomen with gas. But it only lasted a few hours and the rest of my hospital stay was pretty much pain free.

Gina,
I HONESTLY HAD NO PAIN. I GOT TALKED INTO TAKING A PAIN PILL THE FIRST DAY. EVERYONE SAID I WOULD NEED IT. I NEVER TOOK ANOTHER ONE. I KEPT EXPECTING PAIN TO SUDDENLY HIT ME. THEY GET YOU UP AND WALKING VERY FAST. LISTEN TO THEM. I ENJOYED THE WHOLE SITUATION. I WENT TO SLEEP, WOKE UP, AND IT FELT LIKE A FEW MIN. IT WAS AMAZING. THEN YOU ARE ON TO A NEW LIFE. GOOD LUCK LIZZ
Gina, I am going to be honest with you. I DID FEEL PAIN!!!!
Thank goodness these other ladies didnt feel as much as I did, I was regretting it!!! I really was, I was good until they took out the Morphin pump, and after that I needed pain meds every 4 hours. I would cry due the the pain. I do admit walking wasnt very painfull in fact it does help with the pain and it helps release gas!!!!
I still had the JP drip in me while in the hospital and until that was taking out of me I felt a little better. But even getting home I was in much pain up until a week thats when I started to feel better. I do have problems with my liquid diet. I didnt know that it would be so hard for me to follow the rules, but it is. I never read stories on how hard it would be,but for me it is hard. I give props to all those that follow the liquid diet rule. And thats liquids for 1 month.I just cnt handle that!!!! but I,m trying. I do recommend this surgery to those that have a hard time losing weight its a God gift to all obese person. THANK YOU GOD!!!!! Good luck on your new beginnings.

Gina: I don't remember having much pain. I was uncomfortable especially getting out of bed, you know it was hard getting 286 lbs out bed without bending. I had to be dragged up w/o folding..which was hard. I don't remember any other discomfort except the nasalgastro (NG) tube - now that WAS a pain. Very uncomfortable and couldn't breathe properly through my nose but through the mouth - which by the way you need to take lots of lip balm to keep your lips hydrated. I look at my hospital pics and I look like I'm in terrible pain - but I don't remember and with major surgery like that - you'd think I'd remember. You are a woman - and as a woman - you are strong! With a husband, significant other, boyfriend, kids, housework, outside jobs, physical ailments, etc and so much to juggle you can handle anything, right? lol
I believe in YOU.

Well...I didn't get morphine. I got Demoral and it didn't help that much. I was in extreme pain for about 2 days. If I had it to do over, I would bring something with me to help myself out of bed...I don't know what, and I would practice on that breath meter thing before surgery. Blowing into that suddenly became very important to the doctor and I didn't do very well. Bottom line is though, I lived through it and left the hospital on the morning of the 4th day, and I even had to have 2 pints of blood and I'm 58 years old. After I got home, I never took anything for pain.
