Has anyone experienced depression since surgery who didn't have a problem with it before? I had my surgery 10 months ago and I'm depressed, I think. I've never had any problems like this, so I can only associate it with the surgery. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the lack of nutrition. I know that I'm exhausted all the time and maybe that's what feels like depression to me. I don't know. I've noticed being irritable and angry, too. Please fill me in if you've experienced anything like this or can offer any advice. Thanks, Laura

Laura- I am sorry you are having problems. But I have got to say you look marvelous. The difference in the before and after picture is unbelieveable. You look sooooooo much younger in the after picture.

Talk to your doctor about this ASAP! Do not let it get worse if you are suffering from depression. I have been (RX) with clinical depression since I was about 17. And take antidepressants and I can tell the difference when I am off of them. But like you said maybe it could be from the surgery regarding the nutrition etc.... But talk to your doctor. Depression is nothing to mess with... I wish you luck... God Bless you and your Family

I was on Prozac 8 wks prior to WLS and about 3 months post surgery. I'm sure it helped a lot with mood swings. I agree that you need to inform you doctor about how you feel. Changes are happening every day to your body........including endocrine changes that effect your emotions. Are you exercising regularly? That always helped me......to go for a good long walk. Hope you feel better soon. LuvitsunnyV

Yes, this is possible. I posted before about this too. I am 7months out and between 6 - 7 months which is very recently I was having major depression and anxiety attacks also due to job related stress. The thing with us that before when we had the stresses in life - we would turn to food for comfortable. Now with having the surgery and not having the ability to eat-away your troubles we have to refocus our thoughts - and with since we're still trying to figure stuff (w/o eating ourselves to death) we may have an onset of depression. This isn't an exact science or might not fit everyone mode of being but I feel this is true for me...I went to a therapist though he was no help. If you have a bariatric therapist that might be more helpful but those are far and few between. Hang in there!
