Pensacola - Dr. Nye's experience ..........
Hi everyone,
When you go to Dr. Nye's information here on the ObesityHelp forum it shows him as having only done 200 Lap RNYs. Anybody know if that number 200 is correct. If not, anyone have a more accurate number of how many Laporascopic RNYs he has done.
Thanks a bunch,
Betti (still researching and trying to decide)

Hello Betti Dr Nye did me On 4/28/04 and from what I was told then the only way he does it is Mini open he don't do laporascopic no more... And mini open is a 2 inch cute between the boobs... He's great I love him and everyone that has used him loves him... I've never heard nothing bad about him.. Hope this helps you... Email me if you want to ask any questions.... GOOD LUCK!!!!

Betti,
I would give Dr. Nye a chance. He has not done my surgery yet, but I have completed my consult. And I'm ready to submit to the insurance, he and his staff are wonderful, all about helping their patient become healthy. They really are caring. You should really make an appointment to get a feel of what a great doctor he is....

Thanks, Jerrie! I've heard nothing but good things about him and his staff. I really would like to meet him and talk with him. I keep hoping he will be the speaker at one of the seminar/meetings they have at Baptist Hospital. I usually can get a good feel about someone if I can see them in person.
Best of luck to you as you continue on your WL journey. Sounds like you are well on your way!

Betti, Dr. Nye is THE best WLS surgeon in NW Florida. He only does open. If you really want Lap you have to go to Milton, that doctor has only been doing it for about 3 years.
Dr. Nye has performed thousands of open RNYs. His mortality rate is very low. He has a great personality and really cares about his patients. his follow-up program is one of the best.
The information about doctors on Obesityhelp is not updated often and I believe has to be updated by the doctor himself. Dr. Nye is very much in demand and thus very busy. He does surgery 5 days a week, plus support groups, plus rounds, plus he sees office patients 5 days a week, plus I guess he has a home life.
His wife is his head nurse and his office staff is very competent. You won't go wrong with him and you can feel very safe.
Good luck.
Patty

BETTI,
I just had a lap-RNY APRIL 18,2005 AND DOING GREAT.I LIVE IN NW FLORIDA AND MY SURGEON WAS DR ALTHAR. HE IS THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!
I WONT HAVE OPEN TO MANY CHANCES OF INFECTION AND COMPLICATIONS.ALSO LONGER AND MORE PAINFUL RECOVERY.IF YOU HAVE ANY MORE QUESTION PLEASE EMAIL. JUST REMEMBER EVERYBODY THINKS THEIR SURGEON IS THE BEST AND ALL OTHERS ARENT VERY GOOD.
Hi Betti, I used Dr. Nye and he is a great surgeon. But, my scar which I was told would be 2 inches is really about 4 inches.
Before I had surgery I was told by someone in his waiting room (as well as others from other doctor's) that the pain was much worse than a c-section. So, I asked Dr. Nye and Rose about it that day and they said it was not near as bad as a c-section. Well, guess what....it was a lot worse than a c-section. The pain was horific...thank God for Morphine.
Maybe they told me that to keep me from dreading it so bad.
I don't know how much less pain is involved with having the surgery done by lap, but I would think it would be some less. My family doctor had first reccommended Dr. Althar but I had heard so many good things about Dr. Nye that I decided to go to him.
I must re-emphasize that Dr. Nye is a very good surgeon.
Good luck on making your decision. I wish you all the best.
