My mother called me yesterday to tell me that starting July (which is when she can change her insurance over), that no Georgia HMO insurer nore some others (mom checked into 6 of them) will cover WLS anymore. =( My mom cried.. I cried... we were both going to get the surgery. I'm not even 21 yet.. and I'm on blood pressure medication already at this stage in life. I get random swelling and sometimes I'm just in so much mental and physical pain that I can't function. My mother is trying to find out about the Flordia insurers and if she can find a place that she can work that offers WLS coverage.. she's gonna try to move down there as soon as possible so the insurance can kick in and I can get the surgery done. I was going to have a consultation this coming Tuesday.. and hopefully have the sugery this summer... now my hopes have been crushed. Why Georgia insurers are deciding to do this I don't know... I just know I am defantly medically needing this and me nor my mother know what to do. =( If anyone knows anything about a Georgia insurer of Flordia insurer that offer WLS coverage still.. please enlighten me and my mother!

Kelsey, Don't give up!! When does your mom's insurance renewal go into effect? Even if she has to enroll in July it may not actually renew until later. But even if it does change July 1 you've got almost 2 months to kick it into high gear and try to get your surgery done before the change. Keep yoru appt. for the consult and ask the surgeon if there is any way you can get everything you need to do done & have surgery before June 30. As for Florida insurers.... the only ones I've heard are still covering wls are BCBS but only for State of Florida or Federal employees (most private businesses have exclusions in their policies). Good luck! Vickie J.
