Please help!!
I am writing to see if anyone in the FL area can health me out with a question about state assistance in getting surgery.
My mother has a BMI of 57 and her insurance thru BCBS has an exclusion due to Walmart requesting that their employees policies include this exclusion. Not fair if ya ask me, but there is no way to over turn this exclusion. She also has several comorbities HTN, Sleep Apnea, underactive thyroid, ect..
My question is this, Does anyone know of any state funded programs that can assist her in paying for the surgery? She is frequently off work due to health reasons and needs to have the surgery done as soon as possible? Any help would be great!!! Thanks in advance!!!
Does your Mother also have Medicare? If the BCBS is primary and Medicare is secondary she might explore the possibility of medicare covering the surgery. If you click on the link at the top of this page for insurers -- you can find other folks that have used Voc Rehab and or Medicare. By reading their profiles you might get some useful information about the situations that would get Voc Rehab and/or Medicare to cover the surgery. You would also see which surgeons they worked with. Your mother might be able to contact those surgeons and talk to their insurance people and get some hints on how to approach Voc Rehab/Medicare.
I was a case worker for the state of florida department of children and famlies... what she can do is apply for medicaid, but.. she might have to quit her job in order for medicaid to take affect. unfortunatly thats how florida works when it comes to medical coverage for adults, you have to be way below poverty level to be eligable for assistance.. If she owns any property get it out of her name asap because you can not own anything of great value. etc.... keep us posted on what happens ....
