This question my sound odd. But I need to ask. Is anyone allergic to metal or steel? I break out in a bad rash with even a coated hair pin. Can any procedure be used without the staples? Please Help...... Thanks Vickie

This would definitely be something to share with your surgeon. I'm sure you are not alone in your reaction to metals. I would think they have alternate methods for people who have those types of reactions or allergies. Good luck !

Vickie, My Lap RNY was closed with steri-strips - no staples. I've had 1 surgery 26 years ago where I was closed with sutures and had a reaction to the suture material. However, I've never heard of anyone who was allergic to surgical stainless steel which is what the staples are made from. If you can eat using stainless steel flatware, you shouldn't have trouble with staples. But just to be on the safe side, I'd discuss this with your surgeon. Vickie J.

Thanks Vickie for your input. But the eating utensils I dont wear lol. If I had to wear them I would get a rash. I fear a infection or something setting in. Your right though I will check with my surgeon. Just wanted to see if anyone else out there had this problem. I am glad to know there is alternatives though.
