Sutures instead of staples?
Vickie,
My Lap RNY was closed with steri-strips - no staples. I've had 1 surgery 26 years ago where I was closed with sutures and had a reaction to the suture material. However, I've never heard of anyone who was allergic to surgical stainless steel which is what the staples are made from. If you can eat using stainless steel flatware, you shouldn't have trouble with staples. But just to be on the safe side, I'd discuss this with your surgeon.

Thanks Vickie for your input. But the eating utensils I dont wear lol. If I had to wear them I would get a rash. I fear a infection or something setting in. Your right though I will check with my surgeon. Just wanted to see if anyone else out there had this problem. I am glad to know there is alternatives though.
