Hello all! I am in desperate need of a 'fat friendly' OBGYN in the Central Florida area. Please let me know. I hope to find one in either Seminole or Orange counties. Let me know of any suggestions please. I have PCOS and possible endometriosis. My Gyn I was seeing was all the way in Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville and that is just too far to travel for me. It is so hard to find a GYN that will help with female problems and not just scream at you to lose weight. Please help!

I've experienced the "nagging" about weight from doctors on more than one occasion...I agree with you...it's not helpful and it's not acceptable... I saw Dr Lazar at OB & GYN Specialists PA in Winter Park a few times for an acute problem (My primary care physician performs my annual exams). However, Dr Lazar did not mention my weight except as it being one of the common factors in a potential diagnosis that he wanted to rule out, which was PCOS (I weighed approximately 320 lbs at the time). I did not feel judged...and no lectures... I felt respected. It ended up that the tests proved that I did not have PCOS. He seemed to be honestly concerned about getting to the root of the problem that I was having at the time..luckily it ended up being an acute problem...not a chronic disease. The last phone number I have is 407/644 1417. Best of luck!

Thank you so much for the info. I hate being lectured by doctor's about my weight. I feel like saying to them....."Oh My...you are the smartest freakin doctor in the world! you figured out that I am fat!!! I never knew!" Know what I mean??? LOL Thanks again!! Kim

I go to Dr. Brown in Oveido her # is 407-366-9195. She is very "fat freindly" I have gone to here for years. I just went back after having the surgery and she was supportive, and happy for me. She was the one person who did not make me feel bad when I wanted to have a child even though I am overweight (that did not happen, but it will in about a year or so). I highly recomened her. Jenn

Thanks for the info! My mother went 15 years with undiagnosed endometriosis. She could've died in surgery it was so bad. All the years she went to doctors about it and they either told her it was her weight or "in her head" Thank god she finally found a good doctor. That was almost 20 years ago when I was still a kid in Philly so I wouldn't be able to go to him. Thanks for the info! Kim

Hi Kimberly. I truly understand your problem. I also have PCOS & had lap RNY Bypass surgery at Celebration Health 2 months ago. I also saw Dr. Lazar while pregnant in 2002 with my first child - he is great. There are about 10 surgeons in that practice & they are all wonderful. Currently, I see Dr. Albritton in Winter Park. He delivered my 2nd child in 2003. He is also very wonderful & caring. He never once judged me for my weight. I saw him for the first time since my surgery last week. He was very happy for me & said that since the surgery, my PCOS should get better. E-mail me if you have any questions.

I know you have already been given some good referrals, but I wanted to add mine to the mix too. I recently went to Dr. Brenda Barry, she is located near Aloma and 436 in Winter Park. I loved that her office was smaller, she is a one woman show, meaning no other doctors in her practice. Everyone there was so attentive and wonderful, from the check in to the check out I was treated like I had been a patient there for a long time. The doctor said she has several WLS patients and asked me about my aftercare, my bloodwork, etc. She talked to me at length about which birth control was best for post-ops (in her opinion). Anyway, my experience with Dr. Barry and her staff was very good and I have even recommended her to my sister for my teen-aged neice who will soon have her first OB/Gyn appt. Good luck! Amy -176lb.

Thank you so much Amy for the recommendation. I will call all of these docs and see what the wait for an appt is like. How are you? Congrats on your continued success! I had to postpone my next meeting with Dr.Murr due to some personal issues but I go to my next appt. on June 1. Thanks again for the info! Sincerely, Kim

You have some great referrals, but thought that I'd tell you about Dr. Randall Parker in Winter Park. Somthing just wasn't "right" about my last OB/GYN, and at 32 weeks of a high risk pregnancy, I was desperate to find someone else. Can you believe that three OB/GYN's turned me down? But Dr. Parker said, if you need me, I am here for you. After that, I'd run through hell for that man! 407-628-5744. Kristen
