depression meds and surgery....will i be able to still take them?
Mine were only discontinued while I was on life support. As soon as I was able to swallow them (mine are small) I was able to begin taking them again. My pills are 100mg and are small. Someone told me once that they have anti-depressants that dissolve in your mouth like those Listerine breath strips. Talk to your PCP and surgeon to let them know you don't want to have to go without your meds and see what they can come up with.
Good luck!!!

Zoloft comes in a liquid form but taste nasty. I took myself off antidepressants prior to surgery but had to go back on them while in the hospital. While I had my G tube, my meds got crushed and went into my old stomach area thru the tube. After it was removed, I cut pills in 1/2 and swallowed them. NO mater what they are. I live in a small town where the pharmacist knows everyone and they make sure I do not get capsules. This way I can cut in half what ever I need made smaller.
While in the hospital the doctor told me the worse that could happen was the pill would get stuck. and that was no big deal as it was dissolve and go on down. To my knowledge I have not had that to happen.
I take Effexor for migraines. I was only off of it for 3 days. I immediately was able to return to taking it and it should have not been out of my system in that amount of time. My surgeon didn't have any problem with me starting back on that medicine. I was on 16 meds the day before surgery and 4 the day after. Effexor was one of those meds, one other for migraines and the other 2 for stomach conditions.
