I believe she is asking how common is it for someone to develope an eating disorder after they have surgery!

Alexa, I'm know it does happen because people become addicted to the weightloss and new attention they are getting. You could probably find some more info on here about how much it happens thru articles or the main board. I knew a girl who had WLS in October 2003, she lost too much, too quickly but that was because she wouldnt eat. She didn't follow the plan and developed health issues, missed a lot of time from work. Her surgeon was constantly challenging her to get her protein in and eat better or he would perform a revision. She had gotten down to a size 2 (she started at 355lb and is 5'8") within about 14 months. Her family and friends were/are concerned about her because she had changed so much~physically and emotionally, she looked sickly and sunken in. Many felt she had become anorexic and was doing her body a lot of harm and tried to intervene so she just started to avoid everyone. Apparently, she recently relocated out of state, telling everyone she wanted to go someplace where no one knew her as a fat person so she could start her life over. I often times worry about her and hope that she is OK. I guess that is another reason seeing a therapist is important after WLS since we are going through so many life changes. Amy

I don't have an eating disorder but I have lost more than the intended goal. I'm 5'5", weigh 118 and wear 0's and 2's.......I'm thin but I'm healthy. I had anorexia nervosa and bulimia in college 37 years ago so I know what having an eating disorder is like. It lasted for about 6-7 months and to this day I don't know why I did it. I'm just glad it resolved with no permanent damage to my body. I've never been bothered with it since. I can see where, especially, a young girl might get a distorted view of things........I think it goes deeper than simply a problem after WLS. That is why the psychological evalutaion is so important.
