I buy protein bars (like Atkins) and unsalted nuts to keep around for when I get a little hungry. Be sure and drink plenty of water, sometimes if you are thirsty your body signals you through hunger. You can also have cheese or make pepperoni chips to curb your hunger. I also buy low-fat popcorn to eat (but not everyone would agree with my choice!) and it helps me get through those hunger. Also try drinking warm decaf tea or sugar-free hot chocolate, the warm liquid will go a long way to soothing the hunger pangs as well. Do you keep a journal of what you eat and when? Check your carbs and make sure you aren't consuming too many. Carbs only make you hungrier in the long run. Maybe mix up your meals a little more by eating more protein, or just eating some peanut butter when you feel hungry. Good luck Alexa! ~ Trish

I am, too, at five months out. I am finding that upping my water intake and also drinking hot herbal tea helps a LOT. I love the Constant Comment orange spice tea, with a packet of Splenda and a tiny bit of milk. I am trying to hold to the three meal/no snacking rule, so drinking the tea really, really helps me. Hang in there!! Kristen

Hi Alexa, I did the nuts, cheese, scrambled eggs, pepporoni chips, natural peanut butter on a few crackers amd made sure to drink my water. Some people wouldn't agree with some of my choices but they worked for me. I know Omar ate pork rinds, popcorn, soups, grits. (again items that some people wouldn't agree with) I use the info that Rosenthal's office gave me as a guideline. Different foods will work for different people. You still need to watch the sugar/carbs but don't be totally petrified of trying something like a spoonful or two of grits/mashed potaotes especially if it fills you up and helps with the hunger. Alexa - are you keeping busy? Sometimes for me when I get "hungry" it's because I'm bored- you know what they say - idol hands are the devils' tool or something like that. Try to keep busy during those sluggish times. I'm 6 months out and sometimes I get that hunger alot and even besides when I'm bored - so in order to keep yourself in check - I always focus on my stomach and ask myself - am I really hungry or is it something else - can I hold on til lunch, or dinner? If I know I can - I focus on something else - mind you that is not easy but I don't want to go into snacking which is what the doc commented against and when I can't fight it I find something healthy to snack - at least once a day. But as others suggested keep up with the water, proteins, and go around the block and see if that helps.
