Is supervised diet required?

Do you have to have a supervised diet before your insurance will consider approving you for weight loss surgery? I am trying to find out how many there are of us out there. Maybe we can have a small group to support those of us who have to weigh in regularly in order to have the surgery. Beth M

Depends on the requirements of the insurance company. I didnt have to follow a supervised diet, but I think your idea is a good one~everyone needs support as they go thru the WLS process. Good luck!

Beth, I had to go on a three month supervised diet with my physician. My surgeon's office said that it did not matter if I was successful or not--just that I tried. I think I even gained wieght during the diet--but it didnt matter I was still approved. Amy Nolen -65lbs

Pardon me - but you look fabulous (unless that's an ole picture!)..anyway I did not have any doc supervised diets though I tried many..and I did try going to a nutritionist and they didn't help much - they agreed that what I was doing was okay - but I was just trying to apease them. Also, I was a long time diabetic so all those records were with my PCP. Most insurances deny this surgery unless medically necessary that is why you have so many requirements - so check with your surgeon's office or insurance what it is they need. As for support - most of us go to support meetings - since you live in Inverness..you would be close to the Ocala meeting we have every 2 Tuesday of the month.
