The Ever Controversial Restaurant Card...

I just have to share my story I had my pre-op visit with my surgeon today to go over my pre-op testing. Also to go over things because I am having surgery on Monday. Well everytime I visit with my surgeon, we also see the nutritionist. She was going over my post-op diet for the first couple of weeks. Then she handed me a couple of cards. One was a med-alert card to keep on me, telling about the surgery. The second was a restaurant card. I had my friend with me, who is also a member of this site. We just looked at each other and about died laughing, but we kept it down. I just smiled and said thank you and placed it in my wallet, thinking of our wonderful board and all the lovely discussions we've had about them. The great thing about my nutritionist's office, she has a list of helpful websites and this one is at the top. I thank each and every one of you for all the help and support that you've given! I know I can always come here for support. HUGS KIM Monday here I come!!!

Oh yes, this is a controversial issue... Personally, I doubt I'll ever use my card. I chose to have the surgery and restaurants certainly don't need to change their policy/policies to accommodate me. I am happy to get an appetizer, share a meal or take left-overs home when I eat out. I am not one to go to buffets (too many hands in the food) but if I did, again that would be MY choice and I should be willing to pay the appropriate price set by the restaurant regardless of how little I eat. Just my opinion... Amy -161lb.

I don't plan on using it either, I just had to laugh when I got it because it made me think of all the times I've seen this issue on the board.

I do the same as Amy. I don't even have a card. When I go to sushi bars, I order a whole rol and sometime sI have been able to eat it all!!! Sometimes, 3 pieces and that's it... If it is raw, I leave it behind,if it is cooked, I bring it w/ me! Btw, good luck on Monday,I'm sure you will be just fine! -Vivi

It wasn't til first first post-op visit that the receptionist at my doc's office gave the "card". I looked at it and said - what is that? She said that's so that you can use it at restaurants. Though I pulled it out a few times I never actually got to show it to anyone. I will order (if I go) from the kids menu and not have trouble - but then again I don't go out to many restaurants and choose to make my meals at home. I didn't realize there was a controversy.
