St Pete Support Group
Since I'm new to the area, I was wondering if there were any places that held support group meetings.
The hospital I had my surgery is in Ohio. I moved here with a job transfer. I haven't been to a support group meeting in seven months and I need to get back into it.
One thing I have noticed is that some facilities here are exclusionary meaning if I didn't have my surgery with them, I'm not allowed to have support?? Am I wrong?
Please let me know if there is anywhere I could attend.
Thanks!
Melissa, I had my surgery in Ocala last October and still don't know about a support group in this area, the meetings is so far in Ocala is hard for me to go there, anyway if you find one please let me know I am interested to.And you are not wrong some of us really need some help,God knows I do.
Thanks
I attend a wonderful support group in Clearwater. There are a number of people from St. Pete who attend as well. The group is called Bypass Buddies and is open to everyone. We meet at the Morton Plant Hospital on Jeffords Ave. in the Tuttle Auditorim. The meetings are held on the 2nd Saturday of each month from 10a-12p and the 4th Wednesday of each month from 6p-8p.
There are a lot of other support meetings and activities as well. If you attend one of the support groups you can find out more about all of that. The next meeting is Sat. 3/12 and I'll be there. Let me know if you plan to go and I'll look for you! I relocated here from NJ and was very much welcomed into this group! Best Wishes!
You know... my cousin had her bypass surgery there as well! I don't live too far away from Clearwater so I may be able to make this meeting.
My cousin did mention once that since I didn't have my surgery there though, I may have an admission price? Do you know anything about that?
Thanks again for your response!

I had my surgery with the WISH Center in Tampa. While it is closing, we still have a support group that meets the 1st Thursday of every month at Town & Country Hospital. Anyone is welcomed, from any physician, pre or post op.
The link above is for an online group that welcomes anyone also.
There is a Dr Calhoun who runs a group in Seminole the 2nd Thursday of every month also, lots of lap bands and gastric surgeries.
Several of us are making plans to attend the Orlando AMOS Conference in June too.
Blessings!

Bypass Buddies does not charge a fee and is open for anyone to attend. Many people had their surgery with the same doc, who is wonderful, but many of us did not. The Dr. tries to attend every Sat. meeting and he will stay with the group for about an hour or so. It can be very informative. The meetings are led by the patients and for the first hour it's Q&A and intros and just learning from each other. The second hour the Dr. comes in and talks and answers questions, etc. And, they try to have a guest at each meeting. This month the plastic surgeon is coming to speak.
I would recommend it for anyone to try. Let me know if you need directions. I can also give you info to contact that Bariatric Nurse Coordinator at the hospital. She can tell you even more. The extra meetings they offer are for different phases of your surgery - pre-op, up to 6 weeks post-op, 6 months post-op, 1 year and more. This way, you can also meet with people who are exactly where you are. Hope to see you there!
PS - If you go, you'll know me b/c I'm the scrapbooker!!
