Menstrual cycle right after surgery
I've read that anesthesia can bring on yur period. I'm having surgery April 4 and If I stay "regular" should start my period on April 10.
My cramps are moderately intense. Any chance they'll be worse?
Any problems with starting my cycle so close to surgery? I forgot to ask my surgeon at the consult.
Hi Jennifer,
My surgery was Feb 8, I not having a period since 1983 as a result of surgery for endometriosis which one ovary was ruptured while trying to remove a cycst, certainly finished menopause in 1985. Much to my chagrin, there is was two days after surgery. Now if that was to mean I was going to start again I can do without the hormone moodly feeling PMS so I have my eyes wide open right now waiting to see what will happen. Spoke to a resident who was a woman and she says it's different for everyone...but heck I stopped my periods at 32 yrs old...and 55 now and not looking forward to having an uninvited guest visiting and making me cranky. One thing I didn't have cramps while in the hospital but a few days after getting home the cramping was moderate as well as the bleeding. Of course you must be younger so the experience will be more normal for you....however my surgeons office said most experience some kind of hormonal changes.

Unfortunately, my got worse. My GYN said that when fat cells break they release estrogen which in turn can make you bleed. It wasn't heavy, it just never went away for 5 months! My doc finally got me controlled on birth control, massive doses. She said she has many gastric bypass patients who this happens to! I was one of the unlucky ones.
