Hi Everyone - I'm looking for a support group near Orlando. The one in Celebration was huge, unless I went to the wrong one. Can anyone steer me in the right direction? It would be really helpful for me to talk to someone else going through the same thing I am. Thank you so much.

The Support Group at Celebration Health the 2nd Wednesdsay of the month is broken into two groups: people who are 6+ months after surgery and those who have recently had surgery. People who are considering the surgery are invited to listen to the group that have recently had surgery. That is the large group. Although it is large, I always get something out of it. There is also a group at Celebration Health that meets Thursdays at 5:30. This is a small group but I think you need to be a US Bariatric patient to attend. I'm not sure so you can call and find out. I am in Winter Park and have recently had the surgery and would be glad to be a support. Rhonda

The Lake Mary one is a good one. We had fun last month - which was my first time. It was small but I heard it can get big. Look forward to meeting you.

The Lake Mary one is for everyone....I know of a woman that had surgery with Dr. Kim at celebration that comes to that meeting and another lady that had Dr. Jawad came last month too. Lake Mary is a monthly meeting also, 3rd Tuesday of the month. Dawn and Omar host get togethers monthly, it is posted on these boards before one happens. They are very informal and we just sit around and talk about our experiences. Amy B. hosts the Altamonte Springs Mall meet and greet, that is every other month. Just like Dawn and Omar's they are informal and it is just sharing experiences and giving tips. Amy has already posted a date for this month, but I can't remember off hand when it is, sorry Amy! There use to be 1 more that was monthly but I never hear when that one happens. There is quite a few of us that understand how you feel...I attend all 3 of those meetings. Tracey -121

I went to the one at Celebration in January and thought it was pretty good, eventhough it was a very large group. Unfortunately, it is too far for me to attend on a regular basis after a full day of work. We will have our next Central FL Meet and Greet on 3/26 at 12pm in the Altamonte Mall foodcourt. This is a gathering of some pre-ops, but mostly post-ops and their family members who get together and share experiences and support. It is NOT a support group meeting, but a informal gathering for us to get to know each other better and offer advice/suggestions. There are people who drive from all over to come join us, typical there are about 20-25 of us who get together over a few hours. Think about coming, at the very least you can meet some of us from the board and know you are not alone in your journey. Take care, Amy

Hi Isabel, My husband Omar and I have monthly get togethers in the orlando area. They are informal and are open to both pre/post op patients and it doesn't matter who your surgeon is. We will be meeting this month on Sunday, March 20th at the Panera Bread in Altamonte Springs. (corner of 436 and Maitland Ave., across form the Walgreens) Not sure what time yet but it will be after 3:00. If you have any questions feel free to email me or give me a call at 407-578-2287. Sincerely, Dawn Post-Op 9/23/04 399/280/?
