Hi Shayna, thankyou for your reply. You are absolutely right about us not being informed enough about the importance of potassium and magnesium. I am 3 months out from surgery now. I can tolerate some sugar and I will certainly try the tropicana Light and Healthy orange juice. Thankyou for the suggestions on foods to eat. Please stay on top of your levels so that you will not run into problems. I am going to do the same for myself. I am having not only my surgeon keeping an eye on it but also my family doctor. I'm not taking any chances. Please take care and if you get a chance to spread this information to pre ops or even post ops that would be great. It sounds like you probably already do that. I'm just on a mission now to tell as many as I can. Wanda

Hi Alexa, yes it was some kind of week and I sure don't want to repeat it again. I forgot to post that I also had a heart cath on Friday while in the hospital and that turned out great. So, I just have to stay on top of the potassium and magnesium. I don't know if you have had surgery yet, but please make sure you get your blood work done I would say atleast at 2 months out if not sooner. Take care, Wanda

Thank the Lord you were at the hospital when you went into arrest! He was watching over you. I am glad you are ok and that that is all behind you now. Good luck on your journey! Hugs, Sally

You are absolutely right, thank the Lord I was at the emergency room already. I know sometimes I get frustrated thinking that if they had just taken me on back the whole big thing might have been avoided. But, I am so thankful that I was atleast already at the emergency room. Yes, I do believe the Lord was looking out for me and I know there is a reason for everything. Thankyou for your kind words and thoughts. Wanda

My heart was racing last week, it was 150. Several people on this site told me to have my potassium checked. When I mentioned my potasium to my PCP yesterday, she said while it can cause heart symptoms it typically doesn't cause tracyacardia. I had blood work done my another doctor in December, but appointment with them isn't until next week, but I called today and asked for the results. But they called me about another result that needed addressed, so I figured I would have heard if my potasium was low. I see a cardiologist tomorrow morning. Sarah Margaret

Good luck Sarah, I hope that everything goes well with your cardiologist. Please stay on top of your numbers. If they don't get in touch with you you bug them. I had a few incidences of a racing heart before my black outs started. Take care. Wanda

Hi Wanda, So sorry to hear what you went through and thank you for posting for the potassium and magnesium. I am sure there are many as well as myself (3 weeks post op today) who can benefit from this post. I'm glad to hear you are on the mend, please take care of yourself and come back to let us know how you're doing.

Oh my gosh!!!!! I am so sorry you had to go through this. Speaking from experience, no matter how much research you do and cases you read about, there is always the chance that something bizzare can happen. There is nothing you can do or read that will prepare you. I mean really, how often does that happen to a post-op? So, you can't be blamed for not doing your research. You had a stroke of bad luck. I hope you are doing much better now. What a scare!!!!

Thanks soo much for keeping us informed - though we don't want anyone to have bad experiences - when someone does have it and talk about it - it can help others. My doc asks/wants the blood work 6months out - and it should be sooner to avoid other potential problems. I certainly don't and wouldn't want something like that to happen. Luckily, I go get my labs done by my reg doc next tuesday and will emphasize to check all those areas affected by vitamin deficiencies. I just started to take Viactiv to get some further nutritional benefits. Best of luck to you and speedy recovery. I have a tendency to feel sluggish or nervous as if my iron or sugars are low, and I was a former hyperglysemic.
