I was suppose to have Lap Band. Got canceled because of narrowing in esophagus. Dr said OK on Lap Gastric bypass instead. He usually has cut off of 60 yrs old for gastric bypass but OK for me. Lapband is not covered by my insurance so I was going to have to pay--good news other is paid for. Even though all my tests are completed I needed a referral from my Primary Doctor because we have Tricare. It has been 3 weeks and she finally got me a referral. Now the wait from Tricare. I am on the way again!!!!

Way to go Donna. It won't be long now. Just think how much faster that golf cart is going to go.

Hello Donna, I have Tricare Prime (not sure if benefits differ for Tricare) and on Dec 2, 2004 they decided they would pay for laproscopic procedure. I was scheduled for open which was approved in a week and had to redo my paperwork in order to be re-approved doing lap...it was submitted and approved in less than 4 days. Good luck to you. I am 2 weeks post op.

Hi Donna I have Tricare Prime also and had my Lap. gastric bypass on 1/10/05. I had my approval in less then a week(once all paper work was submitted). I had my surgery at the same time as 2 other ladies that also had tricare and husbands were both retired. I'm 7 weeks post-op and down 48 lbs. I wish you the best of luck on your journey. Stephanie
