AvMed Insurance/Miami Area?

Looking for help. Anyone get approved with AVMED Ins.? Also, any info on surgeons in the greater Miami Area? I have searched high and low for answers and can not get it together. PCP writing a letter of medical neccessity......just don't know who to give it to. Should I forward everything to ins. or let surgeon's office do it, once I find a surgeon? Thanks, I am really getting desperate.

I live in Miami and there are several who perform WLS. I chose -- U.S. Bariatric. They have a good web page. In Miami they practice at Florida Heart Institute on Miami Beach. I had my surgery done in Fort Lauderdale. After I attended their informational meeting and filled out their paperwork they dealt with the insurance carrier (United Healthcare). I requested the information from my PCP, Endocrinologist, Gastroenterologist, etc., to be sent to them and they included those letters in their package to UHC. LuvitsunnyV

Go to miamihope.com (don't forget to add the http:// and www. in front of that). They are located in South Miami. Also, Dr. De La Cruz, Dr. Munoz, Dr. Moises, these are surgeons friends of mine have used and I believe you can find them by clicking the Bariatric Surgeons link that appears to the right of this message board. Can you go to your insurance website and see if they have any general surgeons listed and then compare that list to the bariatric surgeons list on this site? I turned in all of my insurance to the surgeon, the surgeon is who is going to request that your insurance approve and pay for the procedure. There are also medical codes that the insurance will want for billing purposes, etc. Good luck, keep us posted!
