People do smoke after surgery, after you've chosen a surgeon make sure you know his pre-op protocol. I've known people who did not know their surgeon would not perform surgery if they had smoked in the weeks/days leading up to surgery. What a bummer to get to the hospital the day of surgery only to have it canceled. Good luck!

I quit smoking the morning of surgery. I am now 6 days out. Today is really the first day I have started to crave them again. I've had a hard time breathing due to all the gas and bloating. I'm trying hard to stay smokefree, but don't know if I'll last much longer. I would suggest quitting if you can though before surgery. My doctor suggested I quit 4 weeks prior, but I couldn't and he didn't ask if I did. I stayed on Oxygen for 3 days afterwards.
