Drinking post-op is like main lining it straight to your liver, so you have to be very careful! You can damage your liver and become very drunk!!! Wait for at least a year post-op and still keep it to a minimum. Hugs, Erika L

I'm 6.5 months out and went out this weekend and drank. First time I'd been out in YEARS!!! Everything was fine. I didn't get drunk or sick or anything. Not a good idea to do all the time, though.

I HAVE THE LOW CARB BEER EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE AND I HAD ONE AROUND 4 MONTHS OUT. I DON'T DO IT OFTEN THOUGH. I DIDN'T HAVE ANY PROBLEMS EXCEPT IT WENT STRAIGHT TO MY HEAD. I DRINK SLOW. I WOULDN'T DRINK ALOT. MARGARET

I posed the same question to my local support group and everyone advised against due to 1) having empty calories 2) can get easily drunk etc. I have tried a margarita twice but only sips and been okay but I'm following everyone's suggestions and keeping away. Sometimes ya just wanna be a part of something - like if everyone is drinking ya wanna do the same but the one that can suffer the most is you/me. Something to think about, huh.

Jennifer, I had a drink at 6 months out and it hit me hard. I had to lay down for about 20 minutes to get my head straight again and deal with the pain in my belly. I haven't tried drinking since that time, I'm not ready to feel that bad again yet. If you do try to drink after WLS, test the waters in a safe, comfortable environment, don't try it out with friends or at a club or you may regret it. Amy
