Hi, My name is Paula and I live in Leesburg, florida. I am currently waiting for insurance approval. I would love to post more on this board because it isn't nearly as busy as the main board. I think if I post I have a better chance of people seeing it. I am looking to have the RNY done. I am hoping to get my surgery on March 15. I hope I can do that. Its my week off of college. My kids have spring break the week after. So I won't have to worry about carting them back and forth to school. Anyway, Any advice you can give me so that I am prepared I would greatly appreciate it greatly. Thanks all !!! Paula

HI Paula - Welcome to the Fl boards, a fun place to be - and Congratulations on your decision to have the surgery! I just had my 4th month anniversary - yesterday and I DON'T regret the decision I have done. I had the Open RNY, Doc decided what he wanted to do and since he's an excellent surgeon I don't mind have a medium size incision on my belly area. I had liquids from one to two days before surgery - it makes it easier when you have to take the Magnisium the night before. Thank God I had no complications just a bothersome NG tube. The most you need in the hospital is a robe and some underclothes. My mom was able to stay with me the 2 1/2 days I was in the hospital. My at home recovery was about 2 weeks before I had my staples taken out and returned to work. Some people take more time and when you have kids - that's a different story. You're gonna have to take it very easy during recovery - that area in your abs will be sore and you shouldn't be picking up kids etc.....you will need someone to take care of you for a bit since you'll be on fluids and that requires constant monitoring. Good luck to you - and keep us posted!!

Wow that was quick! Thank you very much. I am so excited. People ask me if I am nervous and I am but not really too much. After seeing the doctor I felt so much better that I know this is the best choice for me. I literally cannot wait. I feel like I am going on vacation!!! Maybe because it will be the beginning to the new me! Thanks for all the advice too because I need all that I can. It seems like you did a great job after surgery of recovering. That's great! Anyhoo, I will definately let you know when I will get my surgery. I hope to get a pic up soon, so you will have a face to go with my name. Thanks again! Paula

Welcome Paula. This is the place to ask any questions and they are all great people with advice and support. I had my surgery 3 1/2 months ago and I have lost 57# so far. Regrets???? No way..... I am 50 years old and I feel great. More energy than I have had in 30 years. I had no complications but you have to be able to rest some for the first week or so. I am sure your kids can be tremendous help to each other and to you during this time. Ask anything and someone will help. Congratulations on your decision.. I don't think you will regret it. Carol

Paula, Welcome to the FL board, you will definitely have a much better chance at others responding to your posts here than on the main board. You will also find we are very supportive and friendly. It can get slow on here though, especially on the weekends since so many post from their jobs. Good luck with your approval and getting a convenient date. Let us know how things go. Amy -143lb.
