Aetna and Lap-Band

Has anyone been successful with Aetna approving the Lap Band? I'd like to hear your stories.

Hi Lori, I have Aetna and understand that they have a no approval policy on the Lap and VGB or basically any of the others besides RNY. They say that those are all still experimental. That is all I know from just reading my exclusions on the policy for WLS. Can't tell you anything about appealing this with them, sorry. Good Luck, Sally

I have Aetna and originally applied for Lap-Band. I was denied several times until I changed both to RNY and changed the language in my appeal. The process left a bad taste in my mouth (excuse the pun!) for Aetna. Good luck to you! Kristen
