My husband and I recently returned from a scouting trip to Miami and Jacksonville, thinking of relocating. It is easy to get distracted by palm trees. Can someone who lives in the Miami area give me an idea of areas that are relatively safe and reasonably priced? I have a 9 month old too, so that's a factor. if i could live on the beach, I would, but we all know that's mucho bucks! Thanks everyone! Amy

I live in Broward county as well, which is a few steps from Miami, But i do know dade county well. There are some areas that you can do research on for example... Miami Lakes, Doral Area, Kendall Area, Pinecrest and Homestead. THose are some of the locations that i do think are nice and safe for you to raise your child. We all know the beach is also wonderful but that is a bit expensive... Good Luck and if you need any information please do not hesitate to ask.....

I live in North Miami Beach...but that's just the name I am not on the beach or super close, I am on Biscayne (US1), I moved from Ohio in July, I feel my area is safe, there are several families who live in my apartment complex. I work in Miami Shores and that is also a nice neighborhood. I think there are good and bad spots in almost every location, I haven't heard much good about living in Hialeah. Sweet Kiki on here, lives farther south...you can look up her profile and e-mail her.

Hello Amy, I was born and raised in miami but now live in ft lauderdale (broward county) as well. South florida is quite a unique place but its rather pricey and very crowded. Otherwise, its a wonderful place to live or visit. I strongly suggest learning spanish though, you'll soon find that about 80% is bi-lingual but the hardest are the ones who don't speak any english! When it comes to home hunting, talk to a real estate agent, check out the miami herald & sun sentinal classifieds and call the local police or sheriff's office (or fire department) to ask about crime rates and safety averages. I've lived in several places in florida and love the south east coast just for the beaches, reefs and weather. Hoping my next move will be to the panhandle but jobs seem to be harder to come by than I imagined. Anyway, I digress....let me know if I can help, I'd be mroe than happy since I am in and around miami quite a bit due to family more than anything else. [email protected]. good luck and beinvenidos a florida!
