I have already been denied by 2 insurance companies. I am hoping to get a new job and I have a choice of BCBS or FirstHealth. How can I find out if WLS is covered before I accept the job. I have to make my decision Monday.

Felicia, Check the insurance websites and see if you can find out more info on their WLS policy. The problem with BC/BS is that there are lots of different versions, so you might need to know which one exactly you would have. Plus, even though some insurance companies will cover WLS, some employers may have that as an exclusion in their policy. It may be difficult to find that out prior to getting hired. I know that didnt answer your questions, but we have seen so many on here get disappointed thinking they would be covered, then they find out WLS isn't covered. Good luck

My dr.'s office was under the impression that most BCBS were no longer covering the surgery. However, I confirmed to them w/ my policy book and my eventual approval that BCBS Federal Employees is still covering in 2005. Also, my mother has BCBS of Georgia through SunTrust Bank (we live in FL though) and they have confirmed that SunTrust chooses to cover the surgery. I hope this helps. Good luck! But if BCBS covers the surgery for your employer - congrats since I did not have any problems getting my approval from them. Take care
