Sounds pretty normal to me. Your body has been through so much and is healing (which takes a long time), it will tell you when to slow down and when it's time to nap. The pain sounds normal too, but if it concerns you, intensifies or doesnt go away within a few more days, you should call your doctor since we really are all different. As far as your bowel movements, mine were not normal for a very long time after surgery, my doctor said that is normal for some patients too. Call your surgeon if you are worried, they are paid a lot of money to do our surgeries, so in my opinion, they need to be available when we have doubts or issues to discuss. Hang in there! Amy

The first couple of days home I would be up for 30 minutes, sleeping 2-3 hours. I didn't have a Bm for a week after surgury.

Hi Alexa, Amy is right, all this is normal. Make sure you watch your energy levels, if the extreme fatigue last longer than 8 weeks, you might have post-op depression, which a mild anti-depressant should take care of. You are gonna feel like doing absolutely nothing for a while, make sure you walk EVERY DAY. The walks will prevent blood clots (AND YOU DO NOT WANT THOSE!!!), and help you body gain the energy back. The longer you postpone your walks, the longer it will take for your energy levels to come back up, and for you to feel better again. **Your new mantra is: WALK WALK WALK, SIP SIP SIP!!!** How is your breathing? Can you take deep breaths? Have you been using a little device your resp. therapist might've given you (I think it is called a spirometer, sp?) If you were told to use, USE IT! The pain you have on your side I did not experience! But, I have heard a lot of RNY-lap patients describe, so I think it is normal. Your bowel movements are gonna be irregular, but they should pick back up in a little while. The only thing that would worry me is if you do not go AT ALL for longer tahna few days. If that happens, call your Dr. right-a-way. We are all so very proud of you!!!! You are so young and made such an adult decision!!! Congratulations you big loser!!!! -Vivi
