Question to Dr. Kim's post-op patients
Hello,
I have a question. I just got my pre-op diet plan letter today. I know that you are familiar with the plan, especially #1 which says no starches. I'm cool with lunch and dinner meals but what do you eat for breakfast. I hate eggs and I know that you can eat fruit and low fat yogurt but what other things did you eat and stuck to the plan???

Beverly, I am not a patient of DR. Kim's, but i thought I would respond anyway. Breakfast is the biggest challange that I face on this journey. If you are trying to stay away from starches, as we should (at least at first), it difficult enough when you do eat eggs, it must be horrible when you don't. I either eat eggs or I drink a protein drink for breakfast. I have heard of people eating canned corn beef, yogurt, or cottage cheese good luck, I hope you find something that will work.
Hi Beverly,
I am not post-op yet but I am a patient of Dr. Kim's also and got the same letter yesterday. When is your surgery? Mine is Feb 22.
For breakfast I will probably do a protein shake (I love the EAS AdvantEdge chocolate fudge and Cafe Caramel) or I like to make fruit smoothies in the blender. My smoothie recipe is:
1/2 container of Publix non-fat Pina Colada yogurt (there are other great flavors if you don't like pina colada)
4-5 frozen strawberries
1 cup Tropicana Light oj (this is really good and has less sugar and calories)
1/2 banana (I slice the other half and freeze it for the next day)
1 packet of Splenda
You can adjust the amount of any ingredient to fit your taste.
Good luck and feel free to e-mail me.

How funny. My surgery with Dr. Kim is also scheduled for Feb. 22 & I received the same letter yesterday. The no starches is going to be my biggest problem. As of now, I've never eaten breakfast. I know that this is something that I'm going to have to change. This is definitely going to be a challenge; but in the end, will be well worth giving up my starches.
I am a post-op of Dr. Kim's. I don't really eat traditional breakfasts, so really anything that appeals to me. Today I had Mu Shu pork (no pancake or plum sauce) for breakfast. Yesterday I had tomato soup. Petite quiches also were a staple for many weeks.
Doesn't Chef David have a cookbook? If so, does anyone know if it has breakfasts in it?
