OT: FLORIDA MARDI GRAS!!!

Hey everyone, Lake Wales (a small town at the cross-roads of US27 and SR60) has a Mardi Gras celebration each year. This year, it is on Feb 5. It generally draws about 60,000 people (not bad for a town of 10,000). You should all come and have fun!!! Bobby

Bobby, Mardi Gras sounds like a lot of fun. My out-laws, oh I mean in-laws live in Lake Wales. When my husband retires from the navy he wants to move to that area. Have fun, Stephanie

What types of things are there to do during this celebration? I have a friend whose father is here for the winter so we are always trying to find little getaways/activities to do with him on the weekends. Amy

Hey Amy, It is a smaller version of the New Orleans Mardi Gras (with less public nudity, drunkeness, and violence). However, you can still drink if you want to. There is a parade of Krew (bunch of people dressed up in masks and frilly things) that toss out lots of beads and such. There are a lot of venders that sell a lot of neat and different things. There are places to try cajun and exotic foods, even 5-star restaurants to try. There is music and celebrations at night in the downtown area. They also have events downtown earlier in the day before the parade.
