I had my Psych eval today...well sorta. They gave me the run around when I got there and said I would not see the doctor but needed to answer a 400 question test. After the test was scored they would call me and schedule an appointment. NOT what I was told on the phone when I made the appointment. So I squeaked... My daddy always said, the wheel that squeaks the loudest gets the grease. Long story short I got "the grease" and was seen very briefly by the Psych. Doc (30mins.) and spent an hour filling out the test. After they "score" (?) my test they will let me know if am approved for the surgery letter. I had a good session with the doc and feel confident that all is well and I will have my letter by Thursday. Does that sound like a reasonable time frame to you who have been there and done that already? Anywho...here's to hoping I am deemed sane! Sally

I bet my bottom dollar that you are sane! That scenerio is not uncommon. Many pre-ops have to take that test with the numerous questions, some dont. I just had a 45 min. conversation with a doctor. I assume since we dont really have a relationship with these doctors (or at least many of us havent seen them prior to pursuing WLS), they need to rely on whatever means they feel is best to determine if we can handle WLS. I'm sure there are tons of people who can talk a good game so the doctors use personality tests as an added measure. If they come thru and have the letter for you by Thursday, then I think that is a reasonable timeframe (less than a week). I think my letter was sent to the surgeon within two weeks. It seems like a lifetime to us waiting for the letters and approval, but we have to understand they do have other patients besides us . Best wishes that all happens quickly. Amy

I had to take a test also and have the session with the psychiatrist. It got me 3-4 months in counseling before I would be approved. I kicked and screamed but it was worth it in the end.
