Hi there! I've finally been approved after 10 months and 2 appeals. Now the questions start. One of the things I am wondering is can you have someone stay with you in your room? I live 2 hours away and my mom plans on coming with me. My husband needs to stay home with our babies (20month twins). Does Tampa General give all gastric bypass patients a private room. How was your care? ANything I need to know ahead of time? If they do not allow anyone to stay in your room, can anyone recommend a hotel close to the hospital? I'm hoping to have surgery Jan 12. But not confirmed yet. Thanks so much! Tammy

Hi Tammy! First of all Congratulations on picking a great surgeon and hospital to have your WLS. I am a 1 year post-op of Dr Murr as of tomorrow. I was not on the 8th floor like most post-ops, but I know that yes your spouse can stay in your room in a recliner chair if your room is not private. If your room is private I think you get a small couch. I would give the hospital a call just to check though. My care was AWESOME, I have had many surgeries at TGH and I can't say one negative thing about their entire facility. There are several hotels close by. There is the Marriot****erside, The Raddison Riverwalk. If you have any other questions please feel free to email me. Best of luck! Lori laprny 1-6-04 plastics 12-14-04 TT/BL/BA

I can not tell you anything about Tampa General. But there is a web site called Hospital Soup where you can enter the hospitals name and it will give you a list of accommodations sorted by the distance from the hospital and all sorts of information about that hospital. It is pretty neat. (hospitalsoup.com) just add the http://.www I just tried to access the hospitalsoup web site and got an error message. But I will keep trying.

The Hospital Soup site is up again. You can also access the Tampa General Hospital website. There they give a patient rep number to help you with information and accomodations.

I HAD MY SURGERY WITH DR MURR. GREAT DOCTOR. MY MOTHER LIVES IN MIAMI AND I LIVE IN ORLANDO. THE FIRST NIGHT I DID NOT HAVE A PRIVATE ROOM BUT MY MOTHER SLEPT IN THE RECLINER. THE SECOND NIGHT I WAS GIVEN A PRIVATE ROOM WHERE THERE WAS A COUCH AND SHE SLEPT THERE. THE CARE WAS WONDERFUL. THE FIRST THE NIGHT THE NURSE DID SAY SOMETHING ABOUT MY MOTHER STAYING AND I TOLD HER DR MURR WANTED US TO HAVE A FAMILY THERE WITH US SO THEY DID NOT MAKE BIG THING ABOUT IT. GOOD LUCK , I WILL BE PRAYING FOR YOU .

First of all you will have the BEST Dr & the Best hospital. I went to 3 different seminars before choosing Dr. Murr and TGH. Because of other problems this was my 29th surgery. I have never been treated with better care and true concern for my well being then by this group. I had some complications, because of my diabeties not the surgery, so I never left the step down on the 4th floor. I cannot say enough how they really went out of the way to help me. Good luck you have made the very best choice.
