Has anybody heard an update on Dr. Tenewitz and his practice with regards to a new hospital? Wuesthoff has changed its insurance policy and has excluded bariatric coverage. When I was in his office before Christmas, they were working on a new facility but were'nt sure if it would be in Titusville (Jess Parrish) or Sebastian-Indian River County. Anyone know anything?

All I know is that someone from Dr. tenewitz's office called me last month and told me they were putting their gastric by pass program on hold. She said they may start doing the surgery again in March. When I asked her why she said there was a county "ban" on gastric bypass surgery. I called the Brevard County Medical Society to find out about the ban, and they knew nothing about it and said it would be very unusual for the county to ban a surgical procedure. She also told me Dr. Tenewitz was no longer a member of the society. But I gather from your post they told you the hospital was the problem. Now I am really confused.

Defintiely looks like Dr. T won't be doing any bypass surgery for the next several months. All of the hospitals in Brevard County have renewed their insurance and opted not to cover Gastric Bypass. He can and is doing Lap Band procedures, according to the meeting I went to last night. But at least until March, he won't be able to to any RNY. I have to say, he is one of the most incredible, forthright and honest doctors (or people) I've ever dealt with. I was having trouble with finding out what was going on with my file over the holidays, so figured I'd go ahead and schedule an appt. coinciding with the monthly support group meeting. Went in and chatted wiht him and he explained everything to me and is committed to getting me with another doctor as soon as possible. Great guy. I wish I could wait to have him work on me. I would recommend him and his staff highly.

I originally planned on having surgery with Dr. Tenewitz (he did my gallbladder - and I was pleased with his work). But.. HealthFirst didn't cover it - so I went to another doctor out of state. If you are interested, check out Dr. Freeman in Anniston Alabama. I am now 3 1/2 weeks post op and feeling great. I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Freeman.
