Hello and Happy New Year to all! I am scheduled for WLS Jan 24, and am counting down the days. The last 6 weeks have been one big blur for me with the holidays, a death in the family, deciding to get married before my WLS, etc.... So, in all of my adult life, I have never had a late or missed period, except of course when I was pregnant with my daughter 5 years ago. Due to the aforementioned blur of my life, I am not sure exactly how late I am at this point, but I am undoubtedly at least a week late. In the past week, I have taken a regular OTC urine test, a blood test done by a Dr, and an OTC "early results" pregnancy test. They've all come back negative. I am still worried that maybe I am pregnant and it will "show" up sooner or later. The folks at planned parenthood told me to just keep taking the OTC tests, and I've also talked to my surgeon who said the same. I guess it's just hard for me to believe that I could be late for the first time in my life, right now. And this situation on top of all the others is making me 10 X more stressed. Anyone have a thought or similar experience to share? Thanks in advance! --Jezzie

Jezzie, I understand your concern. I'd be worried too. Stress can make you miss a period. Or bring one on. Keep taking the tests every few days. Most hospitals usually do a pregnancy the morning of your surgery. I know it's hard not knowing. I hate not being able to have a plan. But if you are pregnany and not overly stressed, I sure (though I'm not a doctor) it will show up soon. Were you using Birth Control? Kathy

Hi Jezzie, I was late also when I had my WLS. I ended up getting my period the day of surgery. My doc said it was very common. He said almost all his women patients end up w/ their period on the day of surgery. So relax & try and take it easy. Maybe drink some teas to relax you until surgery. Stress makes a big factor in irregular periods. I have always been on time & the last few months have been really crazy for me & my period has been late anywhere from 1-10 days. I know for a fact it is stress related. Good luck & happy new year!

HELLO JEZZIE. I AGREE WITH THE OTHER POST. STRESS WILL DELAY YOUR MENSECYCLE. CHANGE YOUR ENVIORNMENT BY LISTENING TO SOOTHING MUSIC AND DRINKING SOME HOT TEA. AND JUST RELAX. I TOO HAVE BEEN LATE. AND WHEN I TOOK A TIME OUT FOR MYSELF, I REALIZED HOW STRESSED I WAS. AFTER USING SOME OF THE RELAXING TECHNIQUES, MY MENSECYCLE CAME ON AND THEN I WAS READY FOR IT TO GO AWAY...I PRAY THAT ALL WILL BE WELL WITH YOU. GOD BLESS YOU. RUTH B.

A big thank you to everyone for the responses. I am trying my best to relax and take it easy. I realized after I posted that I had forgot to mention I also have a bronchial infection as of last week, so i'm sure that is just added to the mix. Positive thoughts! Take care all! --Jezzie
