severe pain
I am 15 days post-op lap RNY. I was not able to lay on my side for a little over a week. Hurt too bad to lay down flat on my back without piling up the pillows. On Christmas Day, I was finally able to turn on either side. What a Christmas present and what a relief!! Anyhoo, I went to bed last night and when I turned on my side, I had a horrific, hot, searing pain go through my stomach. It felt like my insides were coming out!! I screamed out in pain and my husband came to the rescue. I could not move without it hurting. I mean seriously hurting. Needless to say, I spent the rest of the night in my chair. Not fun. I don't know what happened. I have been taking special care to clean my incisions, use neosporin and re-bandage them. I was so frightened, I almost made a trip to the emergency room. I tried to call my surgeon today. He is very hard to reach. I called again, but still have not received a response. I am very worried. The outside of my belly looks fine. A few other times today, I moved a certain way and I could feel a milder searing pain. Anybody had this problem before and if so, what is it? Should I consider going to the emergency room? Pardon my french, but it hurt like HELL.

where is the pain? I had pain on my left side for over two weeks when I turned it felt like a Hot Poker Turning in my side. But everyone is differant. I was told the left side is where they do alot of the work with the probe and everyone has the pain. If it continues you should call your surgeon good luck

The pain is on the left side. I am now understanding (by your response and by reading other postings on this website) that is where most of the work is done. I hope that's all it is. I know I don't care to feel that pain again. I am still sore from where it happened. Then to top it all off, I tried my first bite of egg salad (just boiled eggs and low fat mayo) and it immediately came back up. My belly was so sore, then to toss up the eggs was torture!! That was my first time throwing up since I was in the hospital. Needless to say, I will not be trying eggs again anytime soon!! Thanks for the response. I am still trying to reach my doctor. No luck. I will post what he says it is as soon as I find out.
Hi Melanie!
I'm with Charlotte on this one....you're only a couple of weeks post op and people aren't returning your calls...this is NOT a good thing. I would definitely make a point of this. Secondly, everyone is right about the pain, if you could only see how hard they are on that side of you...the pushing moving, clipping, stapling, etc. It's totrture and thank God we're under anesthesia! My other concern is how different all the Dr.'s are. You're trying eggs two weeks post op????? Wow. I would stick to more full liquid type things. I'll be thinking of you and hope that things get better.

-50lbs.

Hi Danielle! Thanks for responding. I just got off the phone with Tampa General Hsp/USF Physicians Group (which my surgeon is a member of). They are closed until Monday for the holiday. Isn't that nice? Oh well, if I have another episode like that, I will just go to the emergency room and be done with it. By the way, congratulations on your 50 lb. loss.
