As to be expected I am starting to lose my hair like crazy. It is driving me nuts. I have to wear all dark clothes if you know what I mean. But I would like to hear what have you heard or experienced that has help reduce the amount of hair loss. I am taking extra Biotin. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Other than that I feel like a million bucks. I am 2.5 months post op and have lost 54 pounds.

Hey Karl Great to see you back-we've missed you for awhile. I would suggest Biotin, which you are already doing...and they recommend really increasing your protein & water intake. Hope that helps some. Danielle -40 #s

Hey Danielle: I will try that. My water intake has dropped. I am taking in about 75-100 grams of protein a day. Thanks a million!! KD

My surgeon told us at his seminar that no matter how much protein you ate, what supplements you took, no matter what you do, you WILL lose some hair. However, if you don't follow the protein & supplements rules, it will be worse. But the good news is that it comes back for most folks, so don't panic. Vickie J.

Hi KD; As a hair dresser I can tell you that I am just 6 weeks out, but started using a product that I recommenened to my clients who were losing hair. The product is Nioxin and it comes in packets with shamp[oo, rinse and treatments. They also make gels sprays and the whole line. You can only buy it in salons or beauty supply's. It does help and it is great for fine and thining hair. I started using it last week to see if it will keep me from losing to much or stop it all together and then i can let other post -ops know in advance or pass along the info to all pre and post ops. Let me know what you decide. By the way, keep up the good work. karen

My surgeon also said there isnt much you can do. He said it is a myth that it is caused by lack of protein and most people experience hair loss after major surgery. He also said it will come back, just be patient. Keep wearing those dark shirts a little longer !
