my surgery date is 12/15/04 in pensacola fl. dr nye is a great surgeon very excited. but i'm getting scared and being a critical care nurse doesn't help. i get to see the bad stuff. my co workers seem to bring this to my attention on a daily bases. i use this site to help me pass the time and also educated me on what is to come. i dont have an angel or really any support group besides my family. we do have local support groups that met at night when i work. any words of encouragemnt or advice would be wonderful. thank you

Michelle, you are having your surgery on the same day I had surgery last year....and I'm in the medical community, too. I was very nervous prior to surgery but having prayed about the decision I had complete peace the day of surgery about my choice. I elected to tell no one about my surgery (except DH & children) because I didn't want the negative comments. I could "come up" with enough anxiety on my own -- I didn't need anyone else's. I kept my reasons for WLS always in my mind.......and still do. I pray for you even now as you prepare for your hospitalization. If you need to talk, I'm available or you can email me. Blessings, LuvitsunnyV@goal

Michelle, I had my surgery two weeks ago yesterday. Dr. Nye was my doctor also and was absolutely fantastic. And all the staff at Babtist Hospital was great too. The first few days are rough but they will give you a lot of pain medicine to help you through it. Believe me, if I can do it anyone can. During that first few days I questioned my decision....and I have learned that a lot of people do that. But, now two weeks out I am so happy that I did it. You will do fine. It will be over before you know it. Just take advantage of that time in the hospital and that lift chair that they have in the rooms. Those are great. Take care and good luck to you. Prayers going up for you now. Wanda

Michelle, I also have been a critical care nurse for many many years and have taken care of patients that had WLS in a critical care setting. Just remember for every 1 or 2 that end up with problems in an ICU 50-100 go to a med surg floor and go home in a few days with no complications. I had my surgury 2 weeks ago and it was much better than I expected. I was first case 0730, I was in recovery at 1130 and to a regular med surg room at 1330 at 1630 they had me up walking. I was not happy at that moment but am glad now. At 2030 I walked again and at 1130 I was asking to walk. Now 2 week post-op I am doing great with no complications.... no nausea no vomiting...tolerating everything I have eaten. Good Luck and I will send up some prayers for you.
