HI everyone, I've been trying to get surgery for years and of course along the way I've dieted, exercised and like my hopes of getting surgery covered by insurance, failed miserably. Now, a day after my 31st birthday, I am at my heaviest and desperate! For the first time in my life I am unemployeed but covered by my husband's health insurance carrier who has put in a weight management exclusion in their contract to exclude everything regarding weight management up to include but not limited to surgical intervention. Nice huh? Well despite my co-morbidities I've been refused. I'm of course going to appeal and I'm looking into legal assistance but in my situation and my resources are limited (money is tight). Since I am unemployeed getting financing can't be easy and I've researched several sites I've found posted by past questioners in similar positions/situations. Begining of the week I'll be calling them all, once again, searching for help. Thus my question, can anybody help me find any kind of resourse, web-link, financial assistance, suggestions, past experience, even something you heard a friend of a friend of a friend said about this, anything that can help me get a step closer to getting surgery and start living again instead of just surviving?! Just FYI, my insurance carrier is HUMANA PPO and the web-sites I've found so far are: www.p-f-s.com (888-737-3679), 1800bodymoney.com, WWW.bariatrics.com 800-282-0066, I'd be more than happy to share any results or information I may get from these sites come next week, after I've called and such so feel free to contact me at [email protected] I'm online daily, email or IM chat. I'd love to hear from anyone with suggestions, answers....ANYTHING! Does it show I'm getting desperate? Thank you to all and enjoy the holidays! Be safe out there!

Momma- I am lucky to have one of the insurances that does cover WLS so I do not have any direct knowledge about appeals and such. But I have read comments on here about Florida Vocational Rehabilatation Services. Voc Rehab works with people who may encounter difficulties in the workplace (ie finding or keeping a job) due to some sort of physical or mental impairment or disability. These folks may be able to help you. Of course -- you will want their assistance with "vocational counseling" and "job placement" at that point WLS "may" be one of the options open to you. If you get my drift. If you check on the insurers pages on this web site you will find the comments of people who were helped by Voc Rehab. Look at some of those comments and see if you think there may be a match. Good luck to you.

My insurance carrier is Humana EPO and we have an actual Humana Rep onsite with us and she states that Humana has not excluded WLS entirely from their insurance plans. It depends on what plan coverage the employer selects when they contract for the plan. We have people just about every month have WLS and it is covered. As for my employer, we are self-insured and we tell Humana what we would like kind of. Is your husband's company self-insured? If Humana is telling you that they did this across all their plans, I would like to see this to show the Humana rep in our office and see what she knows. Please e-mail at [email protected]. Gina
