HELP!!!!!!!!

i got my denial "letter" today. the reason they denied me is because there is a direct exclusion saying that they will not do ANYTHING to help with the "cure" of obesity, "including but not limited to surgery". what the hell is that supposed to mean. they will pay for you to see a fertility specialist but not the surgery, yet alone a dietition. so, this is where i ask for help. how do i fight an exclusion? is there any way to get the surgery? i dont have the money to pay out of pocket and i cant go on living like this. now for the laugh of the day....i told a "friend" of mine what happened. he said "well, i guess you should go on a diet then" gee why havent i thought of that before. i could have saved myself all the torture and embarassment i have gone through my ENTIRE life, lol

Robin, don't give up. I know the surgery is very expensive... but there are other alternatives, contact a lawyer that deals with WLS, appeal, appeal, appeal!!! If all else fails, you can have the surgery done overseas for 1/2 the $ you'd pay here. I had mine in Brazil at my father's practice. I believe the cost of the surgery in Brazil would be about $10,000 + tkts and visa/passport fees (if you do not have one already). Good luck. I hope you are able to have your surgery here in the US through your insurance co. I know it may be scary to have it done in a place where you know no one and do not speak the language! I am sorry to hear this news...........I wouldn't give up keeping knocking on the door and it will OPEN. May i ask what insurance company denied you? Geri

((((HUGS)))) I'm so sorry you got denied. I don't know how to fight an exclusion, we are hearing more and more insurance companies adding those to avoid paying for WLS. You could look into Vocational Rehab like others on here have done. Sorry that I dont know enough about that program to guide you. There is also the option of financing the surgery. Don't be too hard on your "friend"...no one knows how badly we want the surgery unless they are in the same situation, he just has no true understanding what WLS means to you. Good luck! Amy
