Suffering again

I'm having a hard time again. Maybe you guys can help. I'm 19 days post op, and I'm struggling. I'm not working right now and I think its making it worse. All I can think about is food. I'm dying for a bite of a Wopper from Burger King. Just a bite--one bite. I know I'm not going to--but the thought is killing me. Everywhere you look there is food. food on t.v., restaurants, billboards, etc. I know its head hunger--but how do I get it out of my head? Every food looks good to me now. If I can just make it to the fifth week I'll be okay. How did you all get through It? Did anyone feel the way I am feeling? Thanks in advance, Amy Nolen

You've got to get out of your house. Go take a walk or go window shopping at the mall or something. You have to get your mind fixed on something else so you don't have time to think about food. You worked hard to have this surgery and it's a life long commitment that starts now and I just KNOW you can do it!!! Also keep sipping on water, which may also help with the head hunger you're suffering from. Good luck!! Jan

I was lucky, no one lived with me and the people who came to stay with me did not eat around me. The only food in my house was food I could eat. Out of sight, out of mind. Maybe rent movies and do no****ch regular TV. I agree..get out...Go for a walk

Hi Amy! I know exactly what you mean! I am 14 days post op. I never realized how many food commercials are on tv. This week all I could think about was a hamburger or pizza from pizza hut or subway --- all the commercials that I kept seeing. I have started turning the channel anytime a food commercial comes on. I also try to walk on my Gazelle (exercise) machine when I am feeling like the head hunger is too much. I have also gotten on the computer and started reading the posts here. Anything to get my mind off of it. I don't want anything to cause me to blow it - I have come some far already! Shelly 315/304/284/150?

Amy, I remember how all those commercials were talking directly to me too when I was at home on Leave. Especially the stuffed french toast at IHOP and Pizza Hut deep di**** was absolutely horrible, I would change the channel to not have to look at it. But it's all mind over matter! Like the others have said, try to find something to keep yourself occupied until you can work through the head hunger. Read a book or magazine, knit or crochet, start your Christmas cards, clean, organize a closet, work in the yard, start a hobby, take a craft class at Michaels, in other words, find something that you can direct that energy towards when those Whoppers are calling your name. Hang in there, it gets better with time. Amy

Hi Amy, I'm seven weeks out and I know what you mean. I would be home lying around looking at TV and all those food commercials drove me crazy too! I even tortured myself by looking at the food channel. Like everyone else said.....KEEP BUSY!! When I did start getting out and about, all those thoughts lifted. Believe me you think you want that stuff, but in reality you can't eat it!! That was my experience just recently!! Now I prefer my shakes and protein bars, sometimes "real" food tastes weird to me. "You came a long way baby" don't get caught up with the head hunger thing!! Take it one day at a time!! Good Luck from one loser to another!! Linda

Amy N, my dad did not let me watch retgular TV, he went out and rented all seasons of CSI, Friends, and whatever shows I liked and that's what I watched! Yes, stuffed french toasts still haunt me at times, but I just think of the size 12 pants I can fit into. It will get better!!!!!! -Flávia
